Viewers can see what the housemates are doing night and day on TikTok or 10 Play.

Channel 10’s decision to livestream Big Brother on social media has left viewers “addicted” and begging for more. While fans in the past got to see the housemates in a more unedited fashion in previous seasons, you can jump onto Big Brother’s TikTok page at any hour of the day to see what they’re doing at the Dreamworld mansion.
While you might not think it would be interesting to see them sleeping or making brekkie, Aussies are loving it because it gives them a much better insight into who the housemates really are. Melbourne-based viewer Kayla told Yahoo Lifestyle it’s become her latest obsession.
“Honestly, the livestream is unhinged in the best way,” she said.
“It feels like you are watching the parts the editors usually hide. People being bored, weird, chaotic, half-asleep, oversharing. It is the real Big Brother.”
At the time of writing on Friday morning, the housemates are all asleep and there are nearly 700 people tuned in watching them snore and shuffle around in their beds.
Why is the Big Brother livestream so good?
Each weeknight, viewers are treated to an hour-long episode wrapping up all the best bits of the day, including the challenges, nominations, drama, and diary room confessions.
But with 24 hours in a day and a house with more than a dozen people inside, there’s no way to capture every interesting tidbit for broadcast.
Kayla said it’s wild how quickly she became “invested” in what the housemates were up to.
“The funniest thing is how normal moments become addictive,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.
“Someone making toast suddenly feels like a storyline. I caught myself genuinely invested in some of the housemates doing sheet masks with each other.
“There is so much that never makes the broadcast. Little alliances forming over snacks, micro-arguments over nothing, people being delusional about how they think they are coming across. It is great because it does not feel produced.”
Sydney viewers Anthony and Jordan told Yahoo Lifestyle that livestreaming the show was a “clever” move by Channel 10 because they felt many reality TV shows had “lost” the “reality” element.
“The rawness of the stream has capitalised on the true nature of this social experiment.. like housemates sharing political views that spark heated debates,” they said.
“Jane, for example, comes across on TV as the cool grandma, but on the stream her views are much stronger, which has led a lot of viewers to rethink voting her in. It really highlights how different some personalities are when they are not shown through an edit.
“The livestream makes it impossible to hide and authentic favourites shine through.”
How can I watch the Big Brother livestream?
Viewers can tap into the livestream day or night on the Big Brother Australia TikTok account as well as 10 Play via the 10 app.
It’s free to watch on either format.
You can view it on your computer without downloading the 10 app, however you’ll be prompted to do so if you’re using your phone.
Channel 10’s executive producer Sarah Thornton revealed the livestream is on a slight delay so that producers can watch out for defamation or classification.
She confirmed it wouldn’t be “over-produced” and would still be “reflective of the values of the main show”.
“There’ll be flashes of people hopping into showers and stuff. But that’s not the focus of the livestream by any means,” she told TV Tonight.
While there have been ways in the past that Big Brother Australia gave viewers a more live version of the show, aka with Uncut, this is the first time it’s available on social media.
Thornton confirmed that while some viewers might have wanted a resurrection of Uncut on their TV screens late at night, it won’t be happening this year, along with another popular element.
“There’s no Friday Night Games, but we do have some excitement in store for Friday night that I think will appeal to the viewers who love Friday Night Games,” she said.
