After an intense 11 weeks, Robert Irwin has taken out the title on the Dancing With The Stars mirrorball trophy with his dancing partner Witney Carson. The 21-year-old has stunned audiences worldwide with his incredible dancing skills, despite entering the competition with no experience whatsoever.
Witney and Robert earned a score of 89/90, and it all came down to the audience vote, with the pair receiving a record-breaking number of votes from viewers.
There was a massive 72 million votes from viewers for the finale – that’s more than double the previous record.
“My sister said it best, thank you for changing my life,” Robert said after the momentous occasion, referring to his sister, Bindi Irwin, who won the competition with Derek Hough 10 years ago.
“I’m going to miss Witney, I’m going to miss this new family that I’ve created,” Robert said following his final freestyle performance.
“I never thought I’d be here,” he added. “If you have that dream, you owe it to yourself to give it everything, because it won’t just come true.”

How the Dancing With the Stars finale unfolded
For the finale, each of the five remaining couples had to perform three dances – a Judges’ Choice dance, an Instant Dance, and a Freestyle routine.
Robert and Witney performed a Quickstep to ‘Are You Gonna Be My Girl’ by Aussie band Jet, and for their Freestyle, they danced to ‘Black & Gold’ by another Aussie, Sam Sparro, and ‘The Nights’ by Avicii.
The Instant Dance was a test of the couples’ improvisation skills as they only found out the style and song moments before taking to the stage.
The pair performed to ‘Cake By The Ocean’, stunning the judges and the audience with their abilities.
He scored 89 points out of 90 after three dances were completed, which put him in joint-second place, with Alix Earle and Val Chmerkovskiy scoring a perfect 90.

Robert and Witney received perfect scores for the second and third performances, but got 29 out of 30 for the first one.
Just before his final dance, he opened up about how he felt his dad was watching over him throughout his time on the show.
He said he wished Steve could see how well he’s done, breaking down as he spoke about him.
He hailed the support he’s experienced in the US and said he wanted his final performance to be a “thank you to America”.
Robert Irwin said being on DWTS was a ‘dream come true’
Robert has described his time on the show as being a “dream come true”, something he has wanted since he was 11 years old after watching Bindi perform on the same dance floor a decade ago.
The Irwin family has been living Stateside while Robert has been on the show, with Terri joining Bindi, her husband Chandler Powell, and their daughter Grace for the finale.
In a video shared by Dancing With The Stars, Robert shared that while he’s “not a dancer”, he’s got the passion and enthusiasm, which he added would “take us where we want to get to”.
“As soon as I feel the energy from the crowd, I feel the trust I have with my partner, I look and see my family in the audience, I think about what I’m here to represent, I feel the love from everybody across [America] – that is what keeps me going.
“And even when it’s really, really hard, I wouldn’t change it for the world, because this has changed my life.”
Robert added with tears in his eyes that his and Witney’s final performance is “a way to say thank you to everyone who has allowed us to be part of this journey and to take them on this journey with us.
“I will always look back on this experience with the greatest sense of gratitude. I wouldn’t change a thing, not for the world.”
