The highly anticipated first season of the Australian Golden Bachelor finally aired on Monday night. And the show’s hunky lead, Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden certainly had the ladies’ hearts aflutter, but the mansion featured in the show is also seriously stunning.

The premiere episode showed Bear driving a boat through Sydney Harbour before the cameras panned to a beautiful mansion on the water that serves as the main filming location of the show. The house in question is so fancy, it even has a name: Tresco.

Tresco is an historic mansion that was most recently up for sale for between $110 million and $120 million.

This Yahoo Lifestyle reporter has actually visited Tresco for a party in 2018 and I can tell you, it certainly is beautiful!

The views were simply stunning (though you do just miss out on seeing the Harbour Bridge and Opera House), and it has got to be one of the most beautiful places to watch the sunset over the water

However, I do feel for the ladies in their heels, as it wasn’t fun getting around the multiple levels outside where the cocktail parties take place — especially after a glass or two of Champagne!

Tresco was the official residence of the Royal Australian Naval support commander for almost a century.

Current owner, Janette Waterhouse, former wife of David Waterhouse, son of the late bookmaking legend Bill Waterhouse, put the home up for sale last year after previously hoping to sell it for $50 million in 2017.

David and Janette bought the home in 2004 for $11 million.

Prior to this it was owned by the government and purchased by the Anstee family in 1997 for $9 million.

Located on Elizabeth Bay Road, the house is a grand residence that sits on 3300 square metres.

Over the years, the interiors have been modernised, and the stables have been converted into an office and cellar, with a one-bedroom apartment also being built above the garage.

The property also has a large swimming pool and no doubt the ladies on The Golden Bachelor will be hoping they get to catch a glimpse of Bear going for a dip at some point.

The home has been rented out for weddings and events over the years, with former AFL player Callan Ward tying the knot at the property in 2019.

Who is The Golden Bachelor, Bear Myrden?

As mentioned above, The Golden Bachelor’s name is Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden, he became a widower 14 years ago and is a father to three sons.

Bear’s wife, Audrey, passed away in 2011 after being diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumour.

The reality star is an infrastructure engineer, and a passionate sailor, as well as a respected professional in the tech industry, with his LinkedIn stating he worked in Data Centre Management for Woolworths Group.

Bear lives in Sydney and the Daily Mail has previously stated that his sons have claimed he would bring home the “wrong kind of girls”.

“Bear is always complaining that his boys are saying that he is bringing around the wrong kind of girls that are just too young and hot for him,” an alleged friend told the publication.

“We were always saying that he needs to be put on a show like MAFS, so seeing him up for the Bachelor role is no surprise.”

Speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle, Samantha Armytage, who hosts the show, said she was part of a “chemistry test” to choose the Golden Bachelor.

“I did get to meet them, the final three before we chose, and Bear was the very obvious choice,” she said.

“I mean, he’s handsome, but besides that, he was so kind. His story was so powerful and tragic, and he was ready.”

Prior to the show’s premiere, there were romance rumours between Bear and Samantha.

But she shut them down.

“I mean, the Bear rumours I just find absolutely hilarious. Can you imagine? Plot twist: ‘Armytage runs off with the Bachelor’. No, I did not do that,” she told Yahoo Lifestyle.

“Every time I stand next to a man, they say I’m dating him. I take a friend of mine to the races who’s gay, and they say we’re dating.

“It’s like, no, we’re not! So it’s funny, it’s actually funny.”

Samantha announced in December last year, on the eve of her fourth wedding anniversary with ex-husband Richard Lavender, that the pair were divorcing.
