The Dallas Mavericks had an inconsistent season, mainly due to injuries. They also made roster moves that did not pay off. As a result, some began to question general manager Nico Harrison’s job. However, the team seems to have already made a decision about his future.

After making one of the most surprising trades of the season, the Dallas Mavericks faced major challenges with consistency. They struggled throughout the 2024–25 NBA campaign and eventually lost to the Memphis Grizzlies in the playoffs. As a result, many are already questioning the sports project led by Nico Harrison.
Because of that, rumors began to circulate about his possible exit from the franchise. In response to this speculation, the Dallas Mavericks have reportedly made a decision regarding his future.
“The moves were the latest suggestion that Harrison, at least to this point, has retained sufficient support from new Mavericks majority owner Patrick Dumont to carry on as the head of Dallas’ basketball operations despite the ongoing loud dismay emanating from many Mavericks fans — now at three months and counting — in the wake of the Doncic deal,” stated NBA insider Marc Stein.
Nico Harrison’s sporting project faced a tough season due to injuries to key players. At one point, the situation became critical.
However, the team slowly recovered its core pieces and fought back to reach the Play-In Tournament. They could not advance further, but the effort showed promise.
Because of that, Harrison may get another chance to prove his roster can compete. With a healthy squad, the Mavericks could aim higher and fight for at least one NBA championship.
Although this news might not please fans, sticking with their sporting project could remain as the best choice as per many NBA experts. They already took a big risk by investing heavily in their top player. They also spent a lot of money to build around him.
Moreover, players like Max Christie and Anthony Davis have delivered solid performances. For that reason, betting on their continuity makes sense. It is the right approach to see how the project evolves with consistency.

Dallas Mavericks injuries in 2024–25 season already impacting plans for next season
During the season, key players like Anthony Davis, Kyrie Irving, and P.J. Washington missed long stretches. Also, Luka Doncic missed time before leaving the team.
These absences hurt the roster’s performance. They forced the head coach Jason Kidd to constantly adjust. As a result, the Mavericks struggled to build consistency throughout the season.
Because of this, Nico Harrison may now push for major changes. The injuries have raised serious concerns within the franchise. “Mavericks GM Nico Harrison is making major changes to the team’s health and performance group again.
Among the dismissals: athletic performance director Keith Belton, Harrison’s hire last summer, and head athletic trainer Dionne Calhoun,” reported Tim MacMahon on ESPN.
With these reportedly changes, Dallas Mavericks will aim to stay consistent in terms of player health. If they succeed, they could become one of the toughest teams to beat.
This is especially true with the big names they have to hold the defense together. However, it will also depend on how well they replace the players who could leave. Only time will tell how this transition plays out.
