A Channel Nine Adelaide newsreader who spent nearly two decades with the network has been “absolutely blindsided” by their sudden axing.
Kate Collins, an Adelaide fixture on the local Nine Network, has been slashed after 19 years on the job.
Collins joined the channel back in 2006 as a reporter and graduated to weekend news presenter the following year.
However, Nine reportedly recently told Collins her contract would not be renewed after nearly two decades with the network.
Ms Collins was absent from Monday’s night bulletin following the decision.

An insider source told The Advertiser the decision came as a “huge shock” and Ms Collins was “absolutely blindsided”.
The newsreader “loved her job so much and she never took the privilege for granted,” they added.
Ms Collins had hosted the Network’s Christmas Pageant coverage just three days before the decision was announced.

It comes as another 9News anchor and weather presenter, Amber Sherlock, suddenly disappeared from her usual slot with no explanation.
The 49-year-old was abruptly replaced by reporter Sophie Walsh.
According to the Daily Mail, the newsroom insiders as well as the network did not deny that Sherlock was out of job.
The decision comes after dozens of roles have been axed at Nine as part of a major restructure across its broadcast and streaming division.
Staff were informed of the sweeping changes on Monday morning, with some expected to learn this week that their roles have been made redundant.
The news, delivered in an email from Nine’s new boss of streaming and broadcast Amanda Laing, announced the consultation period with staff would begin immediately.
Laing said the review would focus on news, sport, Stan marketing and creative operations as part of a plan to streamline the company’s structure.
Nine, which owns The Sydney Morning Herald and The Age, announced the cuts following a wider corporate restructure earlier this year that saw Stan and Nine’s television operations merge under Laing’s leadership.

A Nine spokesperson said the decision was made to reduce duplication, boost collaboration across Stan, Channel 9 and 9Now, and offset the challenges of a weakened advertising market.
“Our primary focus during the consultation is supporting these team members through access to our employee wellbeing provider, as well as exploring redeployment opportunities within the broader Nine Group,” the spokesperson told this masthead.
“We have today commenced consultation with some team members, whose roles within Nine’s Streaming and Broadcast division are impacted by our new operating model,” they concluded.
