This is the question on the minds of all Rap lovers, especially those who know about the relationship between the two famous rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake.
Ever since Kendrick Lamar was announced as the headliner for America’s most anticipated event – the Super Bowl Halftime Show – another name that has been frequently mentioned in the news is Drake.
And the question is, will Drake continue to be criticized by Lamar during this important event?
Kendrick Lamar isn’t afraid of a little controversy, but the NFL is. So how might that play out during Sunday’s Super Bowl halftime show?
Part of the fun of a live show like the NFL Halftime Show is that we don’t know what’s going to happen until it happens, like Usher’s surprise 2024 cameo or Rihanna’s pregnancy announcement. But Kendrick’s fight comes amid a rap spat between him and rival Drake.
If we’re to believe the rumors, it looks like Kendrick might be playing his biggest Drake diss track yet, Not Like Us. The song, the fifth in a series of diss tracks that have accused the Canadian rapper of pedophilia and sexual misconduct, cemented his victory over Drake and broke several Spotify records.
Yesterday, Not Like Us won big at the 2025 Grammy Awards, taking home Song of the Year and Record of the Year – one of the three biggest Grammy awards.
But the song and the incident have also led to a number of lawsuits. Drake sued Universal Music Group and Spotify, accusing them of colluding to inflate the popularity of the song, and accused UMG of violating RICO laws. Drake has since filed another lawsuit against UMG for defamation and diverting money to iHeartRadio.
Whatever the outcome, we’re probably in for a surprise, but not everyone in the NFL is in for a surprise, Andrew Mall, an associate professor of music at Northeastern University, told Northeastern Global News.
The idea that the NFL would agree to something they could be sued for — like allowing Kendrick to accuse Drake of being a pedophile — is pretty unlikely, according to Andrew.
“Kendrick wouldn’t do that partly because the scale, choreography, and production of the Super Bowl halftime show has to be clearly defined,” Andrew Mall said.
“I guess he doesn’t have the opportunity to surprise anyone who’s in a position to make decisions about what happens on stage or on the field.”
