Love Island Australia winners Yana Marks and Kye Lambert have revealed the moment they realised their explosive on-again, off-again relationship could actually work.

Yana, 21, and Kye, 22, entered the villa as exes, uncertain of the potential for rekindling their romance.

Speaking candidly after taking out the 2025 crown, they told Daily Mail they were forced to confront issues they had spent years running from.

‘I think when Lacey left we were like, ”oh, maybe we could see if we could run it back,”’ Yana admitted.

‘At the start it was a bit of a safety net because we knew each other so well. It was comforting. And then slowly it just grew from there.’

Despite facing numerous challenges, Kye and Yana learned valuable lessons about communication within the confines of the villa.

‘You had to have those conversations and face the problems,’ Yana said.

She said she was initially shocked over Kye’s bombshell entrance into the villa.

‘Knowing Kye, I definitely did not expect him to come into the villa,’ Yana admitted.

‘He’s not that kind of guy. He’s never been into the social media thing. So, to see him walk in after everything we’d been through, I was in shock.’

Kyle admitted their relationship had been tumultuous but he was eager to mend things.

Meanwhile, Yana said seeing her ex again brought back unresolved issues.

‘We broke up on toxic terms. Not bad terms, but very toxic, she explained.

Kyle didn’t disagree.

‘Yeah, definitely,’ he said. ‘We had a lot of ups and downs, especially towards the end.’

Despite their rocky history, Love Island forced the pair to face conversations they had previously avoided in the real world.

‘On the outside, we would just block each other and avoid the conversations that needed to happen,’ Yana explained.

‘In the villa, you don’t get that option. You’re stuck together. You have to talk it out. That’s why we were finally able to resolve things.’

Kye said the biggest turning point came during the hotel stay, when he realised what he had lost.

‘That was when I knew what I wanted and what I’d lost,’ he said.

‘It made me realise that I did want Yana back. Trying to win her back was definitely the hardest part.’

‘We actually haven’t.’

But the pair didn’t land the entire cash prize – instead, they were left with just $30,000 between them after a cruel twist earlier in the season.

Last week, islander Dylan became the first person in the history of the Love Island franchise to leave with $20,000 he had ‘stolen’ from the winners’ prize pool total of  $50,000.

Despite the shortfall, the loved-up pair looked delighted in moving scenes after their names were called by host Sophie Monk.
