The NHL offseason may be in full swing, but the action off the ice is just heating up in Montreal. As rumors swirl and speculation intensifies, the Montreal Canadiens find themselves at the center of the trade market, with management reportedly weighing significant roster decisions.

With cap space at a premium and a desire to reshape the team’s future, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are said to be exploring all options—both in terms of potential acquisitions and possible departures.

While blockbuster trades have already made headlines across the league, the Canadiens’ willingness to listen to offers for some of their most recognizable names has added an extra layer of intrigue to an already unpredictable summer. As fans eagerly await the next move, the fate of several key players hangs in the balance, promising plenty of drama and debate in the weeks ahead.

Even though we’re in the middle of July, there’s a lot of action happening on the NHL trade market. We love it!

In any case, several major insiders had warned us this could be a wild 2025 offseason – and so far, we haven’t been disappointed.

There are still names like Bowen Byram, Rasmus Andersson, and Jordan Kyrou who could literally be traded at any moment.

That said, according to a recent article by the well-known outlet The Fourth Period, the Montreal Canadiens are listening to offers for some of their high-salary players!

The Montreal Canadiens Have Placed Several Players on the Market, According to TFP

The goal would be to free up cap space under the NHL salary ceiling.

“Kent Hughes and the Canadiens are monitoring the trade market at all levels.

Montreal is still looking to improve its roster, while also taking calls on certain players who could give the team some breathing room under the salary cap.”

Interesting! So it’s clear that Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton are looking to acquire players, but also trying to move some others as well.

Mainly their contracts, but still!

We don’t yet know exactly which Canadiens players are available, but TFP does reveal the names of three players currently drawing interest on the trade market.

“As David Pagnotta reported prior to last month’s NHL Draft, teams have asked about the availability of Brendan Gallagher, even though the Canadiens aren’t actively trying to trade him.

While a Gallagher trade seems unlikely, veteran winger Josh Anderson and defenseman Mike Matheson are also very much in the trade rumor mill right now.”

It’s definitely intriguing to see these three names circulating around the league, so it’ll be something to keep an eye on in the coming days.
