Since The Bachelor first launched in Australia in 2013, the series has produced five marriages and 10 children, making it one of the country’s most successful dating shows. Of course, nine couples who ended the experience together have since broken up, and one leading man famously didn’t end up choosing anyone.

Longtime fans would remember that in 2018, Nick ‘The Honey Badger’ Cummins made the shocking decision to not pursue love with either of his two finalists and instead remain single. While it’s been seven years since the controversial moment made waves around the world, rumours are now swirling that The Golden Bachelor’s Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden will make a similar move thanks to a series of telling comments in various media interviews.

The 61-year-old, who lost his wife 14 years ago to cancer, told Yahoo Lifestyle at the show’s launch event last week that he received some great advice from former Bachelor Matty ‘J’ Johnson at the 2025 Logies.

“He just said follow your heart, and that’s what I did, and I made the right decision,” he teased, refusing to reveal whether he actually found love on the show.

Meanwhile, when Brittany Hockley brought up her experience on the Honey Badger’s season of The Bachelor in an interview with Bear this week on The Pick Up, he hinted that he may have done the same thing.

“I had that option as well,” he said. “I think you’ll have to wait and see.”

Bear also recently admitted to SkyNews.com.au that while he’s confident in his decision, it will likely surprise viewers.

“It will be totally unexpected to everyone, I think,” he remarked.

“All I can tell you is, I made the right decision.”

Channel 9 star weighs in

This comes as The Block star Rachel Carr, who met Bear at Channel 9’s charity gala that was featured in Tuesday night’s episode, told Yahoo Lifestyle that she tried to find clues on the day but couldn’t tell who his frontrunners were.

“He’s doing very well in keeping it to himself if he has a favourite,” she said.

However, having watched the show, she believes that the winner will either be Jan, who received the first impression rose, Janette, who went on the first date, or Kim, who has bonded with Bear over the death of their respective spouses.
