The Golden Bachelor host Samantha Armytage wad forced to step in during the latest episode after one of the contestants broke down and walked off mid-date.

To mark the first group date of the inaugural season of The Golden Bachelor Australia, Barry “Bear” Myrden decided to revisit some iconic movies in the form of themed photoshoots.

Hopeful Shamse was tasked with dressing up as a bride for the wildly unsubtle photoshoot that ended up becoming a major sore point.

Shamse revealed that she lost her husband of 40 years last year, and being forced to dress up as a bride sparked her grief to resurface and she was unable to keep her emotions locked down.

“And I don’t know what happened. I just lost it,” she told New Idea. “I had a hard time that day. There was lots of memories going and I felt there was a connection.”

In her confessional she revealed

As she struggled to find her words, Shamse walked away from Bear and appeared ready to walk off the show.

While Bear chased after her, it was all too much for Shamse and it was only when Armytage intervened that she managed to calm down.

“Are you OK? What’s going on?” said a clearly concerned Armytage.

“I am grieving a lot of people, so maybe that’s what’s happening, I don’t know,” she said tearfully.

Armytage embraced Shamse, and shared her own personal confession in a bid to comfort her during the emotional moment.

“You’re not being silly at all. Please don’t say that. I know about grief. I know how tough it can be. I know how tough it can be to look for real love. You’re very strong, but we’re here for you if you’re not strong.”

Speaking to New Idea about the scenes, Shamse confessed that she had found it “hard” to open up to Bear because she believes he is still in love with his ex-wife.

“He was hard to connect with. Really, it was a tough person to connect with. I found it difficult to open him up.”

She added: “I have to say, I felt that he still was in love with her.”

Meanwhile, Nine might be a little worried about The Golden Bachelor with the program struggling to capture the hearts of the nation during its first episode. The show reached an audience of just 749,000 nationally and was beaten convincingly by Seven’s My Kitchen Rules with a sizeably larger audience of 1.03 million viewers and, in the first half-hour, ABC-TV’s 7.30 with 830,000.
