The Montreal Canadiens’ defensive lineup is buzzing with uncertainty as whispers of a possible shakeup swirl ahead of tonight’s game.
While Arber Xhekaj has long been known for his gritty style and physical presence, recent comments from head coach Martin St-Louis have cast doubt on his immediate future with the team.
Described as merely “okay” in his last outing against the Maple Leafs, Xhekaj’s performance appears to have opened the door for a new contender—Jayden Struble.
Insiders suggest that Struble could be handed a golden opportunity to step onto the ice, sending a clear message that no player’s spot is guaranteed, regardless of reputation.
The tension on the blue line is palpable, with competition intensifying and every shift under scrutiny. Even established names like Noah Dobson have come under fire, highlighting just how high the stakes are for every defenseman in Montreal’s lineup.
Is this the beginning of a dramatic changing of the guard? Will Struble seize his chance and shake up the team’s defensive core? What exactly did St-Louis see that prompted such a bold move? The answers remain hidden for now, but tonight’s game promises to reveal much more beneath the surface.

Arber Xhekaj’s situation takes a turn, as sources say the Montreal Canadiens defenseman could be replaced by Jayden Struble for tonight’s game.
A decision that is not entirely surprising, especially after Martin St. Louis’ comments about him.
During his appearance on BPM Sports, Renaud Lavoie revealed that the head coach had described Xhekaj’s performance as simply “Okay” against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
The rugged defenseman played a little over 11 minutes, but without truly standing out.
“That’s why the door is open.” added DansLesCoulisses, speaking about the possibility of seeing Struble enter the lineup.

Martin St. Louis could give Xhekaj’s spot to Struble.
It’s known that Martin St. Louis has a short fuse when he feels his players aren’t delivering the required intensity.
Xhekaj wasn’t the only one in the spotlight, as Gilbert Delorme criticized Noah Dobson’s debut performance.
“I did not find Dobson good, not at all! I found him nonchalant the whole darn game!” – Gilbert Delorme
In a group where competition is strong on the blue line, every minute of ice time must be earned.
If Struble gets the green light tonight, he could very well take advantage of the opportunity to make his mark.
A clear signal that no one is untouchable, not even Arber Xhekaj.
