The race for Joe Veleno is reaching a fever pitch, and the Montreal Canadiens are right in the thick of it. In a dramatic turn of events, Kent Hughes has stepped up with an official offer for the talented 25-year-old centerman, signaling the Habs’ serious intent to bolster their roster.

With respected insiders like Tony Marinaro and Marc-Olivier Beaudoin providing the latest updates, the spotlight is now on Veleno’s next destination. The Colorado Avalanche have surged ahead as the frontrunners, but the Canadiens and Nashville Predators remain firmly in contention.

As Veleno’s contract buyout has made him one of the most intriguing unrestricted free agents on the market, speculation is swirling about where the former first-round pick will land.

After a season split between the Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks, Veleno’s future hangs in the balance, and the hockey world is watching closely.

The coming days promise plenty of excitement as three teams battle for his signature, and Canadiens fans are hoping Kent Hughes can pull off a game-changing move.

We have an interesting development for Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens, coming from the excellent Tony Marinaro.

As we reported in recent hours, according to information from the excellent Marc-Olivier Beaudoin, Kent Hughes has officially submitted a contract offer to acquire 25-year-old centerman Joe Veleno.

And now we have an update!

Tony Marinaro places the Montreal Canadiens among the three finalists to sign Quebec forward Joe Veleno: the Colorado Avalanche are currently leading

That’s exactly what he just reported.

“I’m hearing the Colorado Avalanche are currently in pole position to sign Joe Veleno. The Montreal Canadiens and the Nashville Predators are still in the mix.”

So we now have the names of the three teams still in the running.

At 25 years old, Joe Veleno recorded 17 points in 74 games this season with the Detroit Red Wings and the Chicago Blackhawks.

He was earning $2.275 million per year through 2026, but that contract was just bought out, which explains his current status as an unrestricted free agent.

Veleno was the 30th overall pick (1st round) in the 2018 draft, and he had just been traded from the Chicago Blackhawks to the Seattle Kraken in the Andre Burakovsky deal, before having his contract bought out.

More details to follow.
