The past few weeks have certainly been very difficult for Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Laine.

After having an excellent summer of preparation, what was supposed to be “a redemption season” for Laine quickly took a turn when he suffered injuries early in the campaign, which led to surgery and an absence of more than three months.

Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens Are Expected to Deliver Bad News to Patrik Laine, According to Antoine Roussel

According to Antoine Roussel, “the Canadiens will not renew Laine’s contract.”

During the Sortie de Zone podcast, Roussel stated:

“It’s clear that the Canadiens will not renew Patrik Laine’s contract. It’s an open secret. The Canadiens will want a player who fits within the organization, with the team’s identity – fast, energetic players… It’s sad to say, but [his injury] benefits the team because it allows them to make effective line combinations.”
