A new chapter is unfolding for the Chicago Blackhawks, and all eyes are on the crease as the team heads into a pivotal season.
With the recent news of the Calgary Flames locking up their promising netminder Dustin Wolf to a lucrative seven-year contract, the spotlight has shifted to Chicago’s own goaltending situation—specifically, to Spencer Knight, whose future now hangs in the balance.
Knight, acquired in a quietly intriguing move earlier this year, is set to share duties with Arvid Soderblom as the Blackhawks look to solidify their foundation in net.
But with his contract set to expire at the end of the season, the question lingers: will Chicago make a bold commitment, or will Knight’s fate mirror the uncertainty that often surrounds young goaltenders?
The comparison to Wolf’s deal is impossible to ignore, and the stakes have never been higher for Knight, who has endured his share of challenges and is now poised for a fresh start.
As rumors swirl and analysts weigh in, fans are left wondering what kind of deal might be on the horizon.
Could Knight be the next goalie to cash in big, or will negotiations take a surprising turn? The answer may change the Blackhawks’ trajectory in ways no one expects.

The Calgary Flames recently re-signed goalie Dustin Wolf to a 7 year contract, and now the watch is on for Blackhawks goalie and pending UFA Spencer Knight for what kind of deal he could look for.
The Calgary Flames recently re-signed goaltender Dustin Wolf to a new 7 year contract with an AAV (average annual value) of $7.5 million.
The Flames clearly felt strongly enough about his long-term potential that they locked him in to a lengthy deal, and he’s happy to have it finished.
»Eight more years here in the city. Now you don’t have those contract talks looking over your shoulder; you can just go play. Hopefully I have eight more years of not having to worry about that and now I can worry about playing hockey and helping my team win and go from there.»
This brings up the issue of the Chicago Blackhawks and goaltender Spencer Knight, who can become a UFA after this upcoming season ends.
Can Spencer Knight cash in like Dustin Wolf did?
Knight was acquired by the Blackhawks earlier this year from the Florida Panthers, and he’ll begin the new season in a tandem with Arvid Soderblom.
He didn’t get much chance to play behind Panthers goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, and even spent time in the NHLPA Player Assistance Program, but has thankfully since returned to the game.
CHGO Blackhawks analyst Mario Tirabassi pointed to Wolf’s deal by saying it will be used by Knight’s camp as a comparison:

He’s got a year left on his current contract with an AAV of $4.5 million, a number he’ll want to see a modest increase on if he can perform well and seize the starter’s role in Chicago.
