Madeleine West has been enjoying a relaxing country getaway.

But on Thursday, the 47-year-old took to her Instagram stories to reveal her alarming encounter with a common bushland menace.

The former Neighbours star and mother-of-seven posted a gruesome photo of a bloody injury to her leg – the result of a leech attack.

The post reveals the painful-looking injury from the parasite just above the ankle.

She captioned the story: ‘Leech got me good’.

The podcaster also posted a selfie while standing near a waterfall surrounded by bushland.

Beaming with enthusiasm, Madeleine wore her long red locks in a ponytail.

It comes after the former TV star welcomed the latest addition to her family in April.

Appearing on The Project soon after the birth of her seventh child, the author talked about adjusting to life with a newborn.

‘It’s all smoke and mirrors. I’m just a smashed vase that someone has wrapped up with gaffer tape,’ she joked.

‘Don’t put flowers and water in me as it will leak straight back out.’

The Underbelly actress continued: ‘I’m on auto pilot. I’m deep in the delirium.

‘At 3am I got up for a glass of water and decided it was time to scrub out the fish tank and bake a cake, which is what I did.’

Madeleine also shared a glimpse of her newborn in an Instagram post at the time and revealed the bub was in excellent health.

It comes after Maddie welcomed the latest addition to her family in April

Alongside a truncated image of the child, she wrote: ‘Earthside at last… and utterly perfect’.

The Australian actress did not reveal the sex or name of her new arrival at the time.

The star already shares five daughters and one son with her ex-partner, celebrity chef Shannon Bennett.

Back in January, Madeleine announced she was pregnant with her seventh child, a decade on from her most recent birth.

‘WHOOPS!’ she wrote. ‘Thought it was #perimenopause. I thought WRONG! It’s not too much Christmas pudding either. I couldn’t be happier.’
