Everything indeed indicates that Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens are about to make an important staff move.

Several factors suggest that Kent Hughes will recall at least one player in the coming minutes or hours (and possibly two) due to the injuries suffered by forwards Patrik Laine and Kirby Dach, as well as that of Kaiden Guhle.

Why now?

Quite simply because the team is about to take off (first to Calgary) for a fairly long road trip out West.

It would be very surprising to see the team leave with only 12 healthy forwards and 6 healthy defensemen. It will also be interesting to see whether or not Laine travels with his teammates!

“On Tuesday, the Canadiens players will head to Alberta for the first game of a four-game road trip out West. And by then, they’ll need some extras.

The club can’t leave without any insurance policies.

After all, Guhle won’t be back for quite a while, and right now, the Canadiens only have six healthy defensemen on the main roster.

When you play in Montreal and your farm team is in Laval, that’s fine.

But on the road, it’s a whole different ballgame.”

As I mentioned, don’t be surprised if Adam Engstrom is recalled by tomorrow morning. Anyway, that’s the rumor going around, along with the one suggesting that Patrik Laine is currently quite bothered by his injury (which could force Hughes to bring in more reinforcements).
