Week 8 on The Block means a lot has already been done, but a lot is still left to do… which explains why everyone’s woken up rather tired and cranky!
The good news for us is that perhaps that will mean a little more bite to this week’s Open for Inspections?
Britt and Taz have a new game plan, conspiring that it is their chance each week to convince Australia why they should not buy their competitors’ houses over their’s.
And well, they’re really hammering it home.
This is a big week. And yes, we know we say that every week.
The teams technically have two spaces to complete, and they’re moving onto the guest suites – which include a bedroom and an ensuite.
Sounds like an absolutely stellar time to throw in the biggest challenge of the year.
The Domain Buyers Jury Open House Challenge is back! As always, the houses will be presented to 100 potential buyers, who will vote on which one they like the best.
Winner gets just a cool, casual $50,000.
No big deal. (Nine)
It’s exciting and also terrifying.
Han and Can are in tears at how much there is to do, already resigned to the fact that they probably won’t get to it all.
Robby and Mat are also overwhelmed but keeping a positive attitude… until Foreman Dan comes barging in to reveal they’ve forgotten to order their Truecore walls this week.
Oops!
An emergency root canal put Robby out of action when he’d normally order it and Mat, well, forgot.
“No one’s died,” he says to explain their calm attitude.
Meanwhile…
Solo shopping is back. (Nine)
Oh yes. Alicia and Britt’s relationship is more frosty than friendship after last week.
Everyone is definitely getting more strategic now!
Alicia may be salty to learn that Britt and Taz are the winners of this week’s $5,000 from McCafe.
Baristas Tina and Shayla have awarded them for their timber ceiling and island bench.
Today, Emma is off for a midwife appointment and the long solo drive is a good opportunity to let a bit of emotion out.
While she’s pretty happy-go-lucky most of the time, the tears are flowing over just how much work there is to do.
Pregnancy hormones + Block stress = we’re surprised this hasn’t happened sooner! (Nine)
Last week’s tagging of the sawmill timber has reared its (wooden) head again, further cementing the divide between Houses 3 and 4.
Just as Taz did last week, Sonny has found a large pile of timber that he’s decided to spray paint all for himself.
A joint Kitchen Week win means a joint MG Getaway for House 3 and House 5.
Think of the gossip!
We’re EXCITED. (Nine)
Of course, Scott Cam has a front row seat to it over dinner.
“I feel that I’m sitting with the winners of The Block,” he says.
YES SCOTTY. STIR THAT POT.
He also gives away a potentially game-winning detail that Robby and Mat and Britt and Taz vow to keep secret: the teams can vote for themselves during the Domain Buyers Jury Challenge.
Last year, Kristian and Mimi didn’t – and they lost by one point.
Back at Chumps dinner, there is also gossip flowing.
Earlier that day, Sonny and Alicia pulled the boys aside for a sneaky chat and delivered a rather bold ultimatum: tell them the details of their wine cellar or have it brought up in front of everybody at a body corp meeting.
Juicy! (Nine)
Robby and Mat don’t quite trust their motives and Sonny and Alicia are surprised that the boys seem defensive.
So, chumps dinner is all about how they go about requesting an audit from House 5 to check everything’s fair and square.
Ben and Can agree that they need to see House 5 aren’t getting any kind of special treatment.
However, Han’s not super keen on rocking the boat which really frustrates Sonny and Alicia.
“Stop being so f–king nice all the time!” (Nine)
She says she’s here not for the chance to win a lot of money, but because she loves doing it.
“Be honest… you’re as competitive as f–king anyone,” Sonny replies, adding that right now they all “look like mugs”.
Safe to say they don’t believe her. (Nine)
Despite so much passion from House 4, Ben clocks that they don’t seem overly keen to be the ones to actually call the meeting.
He doesn’t yet know Sonny and Alicia are playing both sides, but they’re very happy when Ben says he can organise it.
On Tuesday, the winners arrive back from their night away to an immediate chat at the caravans.
Robby and Mat arrive prepared and quickly answer Ben’s questions.
The teams concerns of special treatment are quickly erased and they accept that it was basically a gamble from House 5 that has paid off.
…But while they’ve got everyone in one place, why not address some more drama?
Tomorrow night, of course.
What a cliffhanger! Clear your schedules, this is going to be a must-see!
