There are nights in hockey that leave even the most seasoned fans speechless—and last night in Montreal was one of those unforgettable moments. With the Bell Centre still buzzing from the Canadiens’ explosive start, what followed was nothing short of a rollercoaster. The home team’s comfortable lead vanished in a flash, as the Seattle Kraken mounted a stunning comeback that left the crowd holding its breath. But just when it seemed like disaster might strike, a familiar hero emerged under the brightest lights.

Cole Caufield, already known for his flair for the dramatic, seized the moment in spectacular fashion. In a breathtaking overtime sequence, he etched his name even deeper into Canadiens lore with a goal that will be talked about for years to come. Yet, what makes this win truly remarkable isn’t just the heart-stopping finish—it’s the history that was made in the process. Caufield’s latest heroics didn’t just save the night; they shattered a franchise record and put him in the same conversation as some of the greatest legends to ever wear the CH.

But what exactly did Caufield accomplish, and why is this goal sending shockwaves through the hockey world? Read on to discover the full story behind this historic night.

Cole Caufield gives the Montreal Canadiens the win with a beauty in overtime against the Seattle Kraken.

Once again!!!

I feel like I’m repeating myself! The Montreal Canadiens once again found a way to thrill their fans with a spectacular finish.

While the team seemed in perfect control with a 3-0 lead, the Seattle Kraken turned everything around within minutes before Cole Caufield, true to his reputation, ended the suspense in overtime.

Just like in the first matchup between the two teams, number 13 gave the Canadiens a 4-3 victory.

The sequence is breathtaking. His talent is absolutely crazy!

Here’s another angle, in slow motion:

Cole Caufield enters Canadiens history with a new overtime record

With this goal, Caufield earns his eleventh career overtime game-winner – a new record in Montreal Canadiens history.

He surpasses two Habs greats, Howie Morenz and Max Pacioretty, with whom he had shared the mark until just a few weeks ago.

Here’s what Dave Lévesque had to say in the Journal de Montreal:

“He’s become the man for big moments for the Canadiens. Three of his nine goals have been game-winners. And most importantly, this was his eleventh career overtime game-winning goal.”

Personally, I believe this kind of win builds a team’s character. Let’s recall, Caufield could be reaching another historical milestone with the CH not seen for 40 years!

I also have to say that seeing Caufield score yet another game-winner really convinces me he’s one of the best goal scorers in the NHL right now.
