There are just five days until Kitchen Week reveals and today is all about installing cabinetry and appliances – which means a lot can go wrong.
And it will, of course!
Each team is bringing out the big guns for one of the show’s most important weeks, but Foreman Dan has already spotted a woopsie.
In House 2, he questions the height of their curved Venetian plaster rangehood.
It’s the main feature in their space and Dan reckons it’s way too low.
What do you mean you don’t want to stare directly at the giant rangehood when you’re cooking? (Nine)
“It’s not an ugly thing to be putting your face up against,” Can says, looking directly at both the rangehood and the bright side.
It’s too late to change it now so they just have to push on, hoping that their future buyer is a shorter-than-average chef.
In town, it’s the final day of the Rex Cinema challenge.
With 70 chairs to put together, the cinema team request help from Bunnings’ ‘red shirts’ and the team happily obliges.
Their rivals in the candy bar, Steph and Britt, are out on a shopping spree – and Britt is definitely soaking up some genius tips from someone who has not only been there, done that but also won the damn thing in style.
Britt had previously told Block bestie Alicia she’d share any tips… but now she’s not so sure.
Someone’s keeping secrets. (Nine)
“At the end of the day, we want to win,” she says.
Alicia is already cut up about the friendship, so if she finds out about this… we’re scared.
Despite not winning a room just yet, Emma and Ben are manifesting Auction Day success with a secret weapon: a storage space under their house.
…Or, wait, a wine cellar?
Awkward. (Nine)
Sorry, we mean a ‘wine storage room’.
That’s their crafty way of getting around any copycat allegations from House 5, just weeks after the first ‘copycat scandal’ caused chaos on site.
While out at the challenge, Robby and Mat get a phone call from Freedom’s Bryce. Which is never going to be good news.
Since they changed the location of their island bench, their plumbing is exposed.
Thankfully, Bryce has come up with a solution that might sacrifice some bench seating space but is definitely better than exposed plumbing!
As the teams race to finish the theatre spaces, Han and Sonny find themselves in a silent Battle of the Work Horses.
“I think we both found newfound respect for the girls,” Alicia reflects.
And all it took was 70 cinema chairs!
Fun! (Nine)
The next morning, there’s a disaster unfolding in House 3.
Dan has discovered their island bench is 30mm higher than their cooktop bench, which could cause issues when future buyers are moving hot things from the stove to the island.
Not. Ideal. (Nine)
But Freedom are loathed to change it.
Cue begging.
Rob from Freedom says he’ll only do it of he receives a ‘site instruction’ giving him no choice, which means Taz has to go rope in the big guns.
Bryce, who does not want to change it, visits Aido, who does want to change it, and they have it out.
Also not ideal. (Nine)
“We’ve caused a s–t show,” Taz reacts.
But in the end, after a hand shake that goes on a little too long, Bryce agrees to drop it down.
That afternoon, it’s just before tools down on the Rex Cinema challenge. Scott and Shelley come and check out the teams’ handiwork.
And it’s safe to say Shelley is utterly obsessed with the 1920s inspired David Bromley cinema door.
LOVES. IT. (Nine)
Now it’s time for local business owners to judge whose space is worthy of the win…
Team candybar are already celebrating and team cinema are already celebrating coming second.
But… well, the business ladies throw a real spanner in the works.
While they love the “intimacy” of the cinema space and are very impressed by the Bromley wallpaper in the foyer, they think the styling of the lollies doesn’t fit or celebrate local Daylesford confectionary.
Finally, it’s time to announce the winner is… the cinema team!
They’re so surprised that their excited reactions are very delayed – but once they come to, they’re stoked!
We can almost see the cogs slowly turning. (Nine)
Tomorrow night, the chaos continues with some harsh truths from Scotty during walkarounds.
Plus, Kitchen Week takes a flame to one of The Block‘s biggest friendships.
