It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for: Kitchen Week!!!
Because, say it with us, ‘the kitchen is the heart of the home’. It’s one of the weeks that can make or break our Blockheads entire homes.
(And it also means lots of drooling over fancy appliances.)
But first, it’s Open for Inspections time! Do the teams agree with the judges absolute torching of Robby and Mat’s rumpus last night?
…No, of course not.
It’s positive reaction after positive reaction as the teams tour their neighbours homes, although Han does not agree with Can’s claim that House 1 should’ve beaten them!
The group are full of praise for House 2’s room, which received a 10 from Darren, as they drool over the craftsmanship, gushing about how their builder Ben has created some incredible arches again.
So, imagine their surprise when they realise just moments later that Han and Can have fired him…
Wait. What?
The news has sent shockwaves across the site and the other teams are utterly perplexed.
Meanwhile, Ben says it’s bittersweet. He’s had a lot of fun but “to be honest, House 2’s definitely taken its toll on me”.
“Kinda wish I was in a different house, might have to go speak to House 1 and see if they need another chippy.”
Bye Ben. (Nine)
“I’m gobsmacked,” Foreman Dan reacts.
Ben explains he’s been told him he’s too expensive to keep on… but that he had an inkling this was coming since last Thursday.
“Did you see this coming?” a producer asks House 2’s remaining builder, Shan.
“I’m not going to comment on that,” he replies.
Earlier this morning he received a phone call from Han breaking the news, but we can’t hear what she said because she took her microphone off.
Hmmmmmmm. (Nine)
“They kind of strung me along a bit which is a bit disappointing,” Ben explains.
However when Can enters their caravan, she is wearing her mic and we hear them whisper about what to say.
Before saying exactly that to cameras.
Interesting.
Han’s story is that she took the mic off because she was sick.
She’s upset at the implication that it looks suspicious, storming off claiming that she can’t see the issue.
“It’s ridiculous, they’re trying to f–king frame me for being dodgy,” she rages.
Not so happy Han. (Nine)
The group are invited to the shell of Daylesford’s old Rex Theatre. There are big plans for its future as a food and retail hub but right now… it needs a lot of work.
Sounds a lot like a challenge, doesn’t it?
The group are split into two teams – with the odd number magically fixed thanks to a special appearance from Season 19 winners Steph and Gian! – to renovate the cinema.
Steph and Gian, Emma and Ben and Britt and Taz will take over the candy bar and Han and Can, Sonny and Alicia and Robby and Mat will do the cinema and foyer.
Considering the candy bar is about a third of the size as the other space, the cinema team are feeling stitched up!
While Team Candybar are confident they’ve got the win in the bag, Team Cinema have a secret weapon: artist (and part owner of theatre) David Bromley.
He volunteers to create a wallpaper for the foyer, offering a unique feature and saving them from painting.
Win win!
This week’s chumps dinner is at the local bowls club and Mat’s all dressed up in his best white pants.
So Ben’s prank to turn on a hose directed right at him does not go down well.
Ah! (Nine)
“Just you wait mate because I can tell you what, I’m more vindictive than you’ve ever, ever experienced in your life!” Mat responds.
Alicia drives him and his sopping wet pants back to site, and he’s already plotting revenge.
Remember Russell?
Russell the feather ruffler. (Nine)
Mat had been wondering who to prank with the gnome, which he’d spray painted gold to look just like the type of thing that could give someone a Block advantage.
Dayle’s secret cousin, perhaps.
Now he has a target on lock.
Meanwhile, Han and Can are getting massages and meeting Scotty for dinner during their MG Winners’ Getaway.
Must be nice.
After being gifted their $20,000 for a Room Reveal win and a 10 from Darren, Scotty has to get up to speed.
Scotty is confused. (Nine)
Why the heck did they fire their builder?
They explain that they didn’t fire him and also, he’s not a builder, he’s a chippy.
Kitchen Week means a lot of deliveries – including the $175,000 worth of appliances Britt and Taz won back in Week 2.
While that should give them a huge advantage, their plans currently have their fridge and oven next to each other, which is a problem as the uneven ventilation grills will cause them a big headache at judging.
Foreman Dan has a suggested change, but it will then leave the fridge up against the main bedroom door.
Taz is frazzled.
Kitchen Nightmares. (Nine)
Thankfully, Britt is out shopping with Steph, who not only has Block experience but is an an actual architect, and she helps come up with a solution that solves both problems.
House 2 is now trucking along without chippy Ben, and Foreman Dan is already spotting issues.
The girls are keeping with their arch theme, but the arched wall in their kitchen has not been built with enough depth for their appliances or with space for their air con unit boxed out.
Ben, Han and Can were across this – but new builder Shan was not, nor was Truecore who now have to create an entire new steel frame.
“It’s unfortunate because Ben would’ve picked this up yesterday when the frame was being installed,” Dan reacts.
“There hasn’t been a proper handover of builders. Why did they even get rid of Ben? I’m still confused.”
????? (Nine)
Han and Can arrive back from their getaway and are instantly frustrated by the set back.
While Han makes a late afternoon dash across town to pick up the new frame, Emma and Ben are off site for their first ultrasound.
CUTE! (Nine)
Tomorrow night, Kitchen Week continues and it’s a tale of disasters across multiple houses.
Plus, one team reigns victorious in the Rex Cinema Challenge. Tune in tomorrow to see which team is crowned winners!
