The Montreal Canadiens organization is making headlines once again, and this time, the buzz is coming from deep within their developmental ranks.
With the recent announcement from the Trois-Rivières Lions, the team’s ECHL affiliate, fans are left wondering what’s brewing behind the scenes as a familiar face returns to the fold.
Wyatt McLeod, a towering defenseman with a reputation for physical play and steady performance, is back in the spotlight—but the full story is far more intriguing than a simple personnel move.
At 6-foot-3 and just 25 years old, McLeod has already proven himself as a defensive pillar, collecting points, racking up penalty minutes, and earning respect throughout the organization.
Yet, whispers around the rink suggest that his return could be just the beginning of a major shift in the Canadiens’ defensive strategy. Is McLeod on the verge of a breakthrough that could propel him to the next level with the Laval Rocket or even the big club in Montreal?
And how do recent trades and signings hint at a new era for the team’s blue line? Stay tuned as we dive into the details behind this move and what it could mean for the future of the Canadiens.

Wyatt McLeod is back!
The Trois-Rivières Lions, the affiliate team of the Montreal Canadiens in the ECHL, have just announced a signing on defense.
Wyatt McLeod remains within the Montreal Canadiens’ organization chart
Here is an excerpt from the official press release.
“The Trois-Rivières Lions (affiliate club of the Montreal Canadiens) have reached an agreement with defenseman Wyatt McLeod.
The 6’3″ skater had joined the Lions at the start of training camp in October 2024 and quickly established himself as a pillar on defense.”

McLeod, 25 years old, is a left-shot defenseman standing 6-foot-3 and weighing 202 pounds, so he’s a big, physical guy, and he collected 23 points in 65 games last season with Ron Choules’ squad.
He also logged 41 penalty minutes while maintaining a positive plus-minus of +8.
McLeod is a former member of the Colorado Avalanche organization, he’s a cornerstone for the Lions, and he could certainly climb the ranks of the Montreal Canadiens organization soon.
We are really looking forward to seeing him at camp!
The Trois-Rivières Lions also made a trade over the weekend for a 6-foot-5 monster defenseman.
The picture is really starting to take shape, especially on defense, within the Canadiens’ organization, and there even seems to be a possible opening eventually with the Laval Rocket, precisely for a young player like Wyatt McLeod.
He’s a young player to keep an eye on.
