The hockey world is buzzing after one of the most talked-about moves of the offseason finally became official: Mitch Marner is now a member of the Vegas Golden Knights. In a blockbuster sign-and-trade that ended weeks of speculation, the dynamic winger leaves behind his hometown team and a passionate Toronto fanbase—one that wasted no time voicing their emotions online.

The announcement, made with much fanfare by Vegas on social media, was met with a flood of reactions ranging from excitement to outright outrage. As Marner prepares to embark on a new chapter under the bright lights of Las Vegas, the echoes of frustration and heartbreak from Maple Leafs supporters serve as a reminder of his impact in Toronto—and the high expectations that will follow him into the desert.

Mitch Marner has officially departed the Toronto Maple Leafs for Vegas, and unsurprisingly, there were plenty of angry fans venting on social media.

After weeks of speculation, we now know Mitch Marner’s NHL future, as the veteran star opted for a sign-and-trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs, getting his former team some value back one final time as he officially joins the Vegas Golden Knights.

That was announced on social media in the past 24 hours, with the Golden Knights official account announcing the thrilling news for the team, and while there were plenty of fans excited to get a 100-point scorer on their team, there were also plenty of upset Maple Leafs fans airing their frustrations.

Throughout the post, there were many examples of comments left by fans that were simply unnecessary, as they’re airing out their hurt feelings at a player that gave them everything he had throughout his tenure.

Some also mocked the team for having to give up an asset to get him, but with Marner now locked in on an eight-year extension, it’s safe to say that both he and the organization are thrilled with how things played out.

Sure, the post-season criticism’s are valid ones, with Marner often disappearing in the biggest games for Toronto, but now that he’s away from the immense pressure that being a Maple Leaf brings, perhaps that’s all going to change.

Ultimately, there was always going to be hate for Marner from Maple Leafs fans no matter where he ended up, but landing in Vegas has brought out more hate than initially expected, but now that he’s away from the 24/7 spotlight of Toronto, it’s safe to say that Marner will be thrilled about his new situation.
