Under the blinding lights of the Bell Centre, the sound of skates slicing ice is interrupted by a single, thunderous shot—Kaiden Guhle, Montreal’s towering young defenseman, unleashing a puck toward the net with the kind of force that makes the crowd gasp. But as the echo fades, so too does Guhle’s presence, his name suddenly swirling through the shadows of NHL rumor mills. Five games played, now sidelined by injury, and yet his absence has ignited a frenzy of speculation that refuses to die down.
The whispers began as a murmur on social media, then grew into a roar in hockey circles: Could Kaiden Guhle, the Canadiens’ prized 2020 first-round pick, really be on the trade block? For a team starved for offensive firepower, the idea of leveraging Guhle’s immense potential for a top-line forward became the kind of tantalizing possibility that keeps fans awake at night. The rumors gained momentum, fueled by the Canadiens’ deepening pool of young defensemen and the recent contract extension for Mike Matheson—a move that many saw as a signal that change was coming.
Insiders scrambled to uncover the truth. On BPM Sports, respected voices Marco D’Amico and Renaud Lavoie stepped forward to address the swirling speculation. Their verdict was clear, but not without intrigue. D’Amico revealed that teams across the league are absolutely interested in Guhle, their inquiries persistent and serious. Yet, he insisted, Montreal’s management is not shopping their young star. “Not a player who would be in the showcase right now,” D’Amico emphasized, “in fact he is placed, but not a player they would consider moving, even with Mike Matheson’s signing.”
Lavoie went even further, painting Guhle as a foundational piece of the Canadiens’ future—a pillar of stability in a franchise that has weathered more than its share of storms. Injured or not, Guhle remains central to Montreal’s long-term plans, his value to the organization far outweighing the fleeting temptation of a blockbuster trade. For now, fans can breathe easy: the idea of seeing Guhle shipped off to St. Louis or any other destination is, at least for the moment, off the table.
But the questions linger, unanswered and irresistible. Could Guhle’s combination of size, skill, and youth make him the kind of trade currency that could finally land the Canadiens the elite forward they’ve been chasing for months? At 6’3” and 202 pounds, with 60 points in 174 career NHL games, Guhle’s resume is impressive—but so too is his injury history. Forty-four games in 2022-23, seventy in 2023-24, fifty-five last year, and now just five this season. Each setback has chipped away at the momentum of a career that once seemed destined for stardom.
As Montreal’s front office weighs the future, the stakes have never been higher. Is Kaiden Guhle truly untouchable, or could desperation force the Canadiens to make a move that would shock the hockey world? The answer remains hidden behind closed doors, leaving fans and insiders alike desperate for the next clue. One thing is certain: the story of Kaiden Guhle is far from finished, and its next chapter could change everything.

In recent days, a rumor circulated suggesting that Kaiden Guhle might be available on the trade market.
The Montreal Canadiens defenseman is currently on the injured list after playing only five games this season, and two insiders have provided an update on the situation.
During a recent appearance on BPM Sports, Marco D’Amico and Renaud Lavoie addressed the rumors surrounding No. 21, and it appears he is not being shopped.
One might think that because of the Canadiens’ depth on defense and the recent contract extension for Mike Matheson, Kent Hughes and Jeff Gorton could look to use Kaiden Guhle as trade currency.
Except that D’Amico clarified that Guhle has drawn significant interest from multiple NHL teams, but that, for now, his place remains with the Montreal Canadiens.
“What our sources are telling us about Kaiden Guhle is that teams are interested in Kaiden Guhle, absolutely. They ask about Kaiden Guhle. When it comes to the Montreal Canadiens, they like Kaiden Guhle a lot. Not a player who would be in the showcase right now, in fact he is placed, but not a player they would consider moving, even with Mike Matheson’s signing.”

For his part, Lavoie stated that Guhle is part of the Canadiens’ long-term plans and is one of the core pillars of the organization on defense.
“Kaiden Guhle, even if he is injured, is part of the Canadiens organization’s plans, part of the organization’s stability, which is very important.”
– Renaud Lavoie
Non, Kaiden Guhle n’est pas disponible chez le CH! Un des piliers de la défense du Tricolore? 🤔👀@datgregtho @mndamico @renlavoietva pic.twitter.com/rfmvdftigL

It is confirmed: Kaiden Guhle is not available for a trade with the Montreal Canadiens: we have two names confirming it
We can therefore forget the idea of seeing him traded to the St. Louis Blues or elsewhere, as some rumors had indicated.
This is excellent news for hockey fans in Montreal, who adore the Canadiens’ 2020 first-round pick.
Still, we can legitimately ask whether Kaiden Guhle could become exceptional trade currency to acquire the top-line forward the team has desperately lacked for months.
Guhle, 23, is a left-shot defenseman standing 6 feet 3 inches and weighing 202 pounds, who has recorded 60 points in 174 career NHL games.
He played 44 games in 2022-23, 70 games in 2023-24, 55 last season, and five this season, so yes, injuries have truly slowed him since the beginning of his career.
