Boston Bruins head coach Joe Sacco released a statement in reaction to Brad Marchand’s troubling injury exit in the 2024-25 NHL season game against Sidney Crosby’s Pittsburgh Penguins.

The Boston Bruins won their game against the Pittsburgh Penguins by a score of 3-2, but the result was overshadowed when star Brad Marchand left the game with an injury after a tough hit. Interim coach Joe Sacco had a few words on the situation, while Sidney Crosby and his team can’t get off the ground in the 2024-25 NHL season.
Marchand is the Bruins star and his potential injury is a problem for the Boston franchise. He left the game in the first period injured after getting hit by Penguins defenseman PO Joseph. While it is not yet known how long he will be off the ice, the team is keeping an eye on their star’s status.
In the second period, the bad news was confirmed. The Bruins announced that star forward Marchand had suffered an upper-body injury and was unlikely to return to the ice.
The 36-year-old forward’s absence, however, was no obstacle to defeating Crosby‘s Pens, who remain in last place in the Metropolitan Division.
What did Joe Sacco say about Marchand’s injury?
“I haven’t heard anything yet,” reacted interim coach Sacco. “He obviously didn’t return to the game. I’ll probably know more tomorrow. I have to look at the play again.
I thought that he was tripped into the boards and it was a little bit of a shove in there, too, which put him in a tough spot. I thought we should have at least been on the power play from there,” he said.

David Pastrnak also reacted to Marchand’s exit
It’s not just Coach Sacco who sent word about Marchand’s exit against the Penguins. No one on the Bruins is clear on the status of their star player, but they have received the news with concern. “It’s never good to lose your captain and especially a player like ‘Marchy,’ who never lays on the ice.
Hopefully he’s going to be all right and he’ll be back soon enough, because he’s always a big part of our group,” Bruins right wing David Pastrnak said.
Marchand’s performance during the 2024-25 NHL season
Marchand is the Bruins’ captain and has 47 points on 21 goals and 26 assists in 61 games this season. This is the 16th NHL appearance for the four-time All-Star, who is coming off a 4 Nations Face-Off win with Team Canada alongside Crosby, his Saturday afternoon opponent.
