Goaltender for Team Canada at the 4 Nations Faceoff, Jordan Binnington, made a notable statement during a press conference.
After putting immense pressure on himself during last Saturday’s game against the United States at the Bell Centre, the goaltender who is expected to start once again for Canada in Thursday’s grand final has now decided to simply enjoy the moment and be grateful for this incredible opportunity to play in such important games.
During a live press conference from Boston and in an interview rebroadcast earlier today on Sportsnet, Binnington delivered this message.
He has chosen to stop putting too much pressure on himself and to just have fun while letting his skills do the talking.
Jordan Binnington sends a strong message ahead of the grand final between Canada and Team USA
It’s clear that his mentality has truly shifted, and we are far from the fiery Binnington we’ve known in the past.
“This is a tremendous opportunity.
I’m very grateful and honored to be in this position..”
Jordan Binnington today on his role as Team Canada’s starting goaltender at the 4 Nations Faceoff.
It really seems like he will once again be Jon Cooper’s trusted netminder for Thursday night’s showdown.
Do you think this would be a good decision by Team Canada’s management?
At the same time, it’s hard to imagine them suddenly throwing Adin Hill or Samuel Montembeault into the mix, considering they haven’t played in several days and haven’t even had a taste of this competition yet.
At 31 years old, standing 6 feet 2 inches tall and weighing 172 pounds, Binnington stopped 20 of the 22 shots he faced last Saturday against the United States.
With the St. Louis Blues this season, he has a record of 15-19-4, a goals-against average of 2.89, and a save percentage of .897.
