According to many, Ryan O’Reilly is a player who attracts attention for good reasons on the NHL trade market. Even though the Nashville Predators are not actively looking to trade him, Barry Trotz has still set a clear price for his veteran.

If we were to let him go, it would have to be for a young player with a big impact,” said the Predators GM on the 100% Hockey podcast.

It is very rare to see a GM speak so openly about a possible trade. O’Reilly is not just an experienced player; he is a leader and a winner.

Currently in the second season of his four-year contract at $4.5M per year, he has 34 points in 54 points including 14 goals.

He is the type of player who can help a playoff-contending team make a deep run.

He could be a perfect replacement for Christian Dvorak or Jake Evans if Kent Hughes decides to move on from either of them.

 

However, he is not the only one drawing interest from other teams. Trotz also mentioned that Gustav Nyquist, the only pending UFA on the Predators, is receiving a lot of calls.

He even said that Nyquist is one of his favorite players.

Nyquist, now in his second season in Nashville, has recorded 20 points in 53 games and participated in the Four Nations Faceoff with Sweden.

In short, if a team wants Ryan O’Reilly, they will have to offer a significant piece.
