As the NHL offseason continues to unfold, the spotlight has shifted to Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson, whose name is once again making waves in the trade market. With teams across the league actively searching for game-changing talent, Robertson’s future has become a hot topic of speculation, especially given his impressive track record and sky-high potential.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, in particular, are rumored to be keeping a close eye on the situation as they look to reshape their roster following significant moves earlier this summer. While the Stars have yet to make a definitive decision, the ongoing uncertainty surrounding Robertson’s contract negotiations has only fueled further intrigue.

As insiders and fans alike debate the possible scenarios, the prospect of a blockbuster deal involving one of hockey’s brightest young stars is impossible to ignore. With so much at stake and several teams reportedly interested, the coming weeks promise to bring even more drama and excitement to an already eventful offseason.

Dallas Stars forward Jason Robertson has been the focus of trade talks recently, and a new report from David Pagnotta believes he’s still in play, meaning Toronto should be keeping tabs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs are still trying to make a big splash this summer, and while they made one blockbuster deal by sending Mitch Marner to Vegas, they haven’t made any other deal that would constitute a blockbuster; or at least bring in that top-six presence.

They were linked to names like Jared McCann and Nazem Kadri, but they have also been in the mix for Jason Robertson, who needs a new deal and is going to be quite expensive all things considered.

Jason Robertson still fielding trade interest

The older brother of Nick Robertson, who currently is figuring out his own contract with the Maple Leafs is no doubt one of the NHL’s future top stars if he isn’t already, and could explode to have a 50+ goal season in the very near future.

Although he was thrown around in rumors, those seemed to have subside for now. But NHL Insider David Pagnotta seems to have other ideas, and believes that Dallas is still considering offers for Robertson:

Teams are keeping tabs; Calgary included, I think they’ve wanted to know, if you can’t reach a deal, give us a call; maybe that impacts the Rasmus Andersson overall discussion in terms of something larger

While he doesn’t mention Toronto specifically, Pagnotta mentioned there are teams other than the Flames who are interested, with the Maple Leafs no doubt at the top of that list.

Jason Robertson pricey, but has countless benefits

The cost to bring him in would be substantial but for a team who just lost a 100-point player in Mitch Marner, they could do very well for themselves by adding him.

Robertson, 25, had 80 points in 82 games for the Stars last season, but had back to back 40-goal seasons in 2021-22 and 2022-23. He’s great defensively, he’s an elite playmaker, and would give Toronto and unbelievable top-six:

Knies – Matthews – Robertson

Maccelli – Tavares – Nylander

The first two lines have an incredible amount of playmaking, goal-scoring, and the perfect mix of veteran leadership and young talent.

It also may give Nick a bit of competition, as though he’s not reached the level of his brother, if he sees him succeeding he may need to try and one up him leading to much more success.

It’s not the easiest deal in the world, and it’s very likely that Toronto is going to pass on adding a big name and work through committee instead.

But adding Robertson would be a game-changer, and a DNA changer: Something Brad Treliving has stressed since the offseason began.
