Cole Caufield set the ice ablaze with two lightning-fast goals in under a minute during the Montreal Canadiens’ thrilling clash against the Edmonton Oilers on October 23, 2025, but today, he’s making headlines for a far more explosive reason!

The 24-year-old phenom, already boasting an astonishing seven goals in nine games this season, didn’t hold back post-game, unleashing a scathing remark about the referees that has the NHL buzzing. As you know, Cole Caufield had another absolutely incredible game last night in Edmonton for the Montreal Canadiens.

He notably scored two huge goals in just a few minutes…

In fact, it was two goals in less than a minute!

However, Caufield is getting a lot of attention today for other reasons – and for reasons we fully understand.

Cole Caufield Faces a Major Sanction from Gary Bettman and the NHL

For some reason I don’t know, as you’re aware, it’s strictly forbidden (in the NHL) for players and coaches to criticize referees too harshly in public And let’s just say that Caufield didn’t hold back last night after the game:

“The refs kind of took over the game there and kudos to them for winning it.”

Cole Caufield on tonight’s refs in their game against the Oilers.

I 100% agree with Caufield, but unfortunately, it’s clear there will be consequences.

Congratulating the referees for winning the game definitely won’t be well received by Gary Bettman and the NHL.

This will be a situation to watch closely today, but unfortunately, I fully expect sanctions.

Cole Caufield, 24 years old, quietly has an incredible 7 goals in nine games this season (10 points in nine games), and he’s clearly on track for a very special season with the Montreal Canadiens.

If there was one player who could afford to criticize the referees’ work last night, it was him – but he’ll obviously have to face the consequences.
