Sidney Crosby continues to rewrite the NHL record books, defying age and expectations with every game he plays. Last night, the Pittsburgh Penguins’ captain quietly added another historic milestone to his already decorated career, but the true impact of his achievement goes far beyond the scoresheet.
With two assists in a hard-fought matchup against the Anaheim Ducks, Crosby not only climbed to ninth place on the league’s all-time assists list—surpassing the legendary Steve Yzerman—but also inched closer to breaking even more records that have stood for decades.
Yet, Crosby’s legacy isn’t just about numbers. His longevity, leadership, and relentless pursuit of greatness have set new standards in professional hockey, and his latest accomplishment hints at a deeper story unfolding in Pittsburgh. As fans celebrate his latest milestone, questions linger about what’s next for one of the game’s all-time greats. Could Crosby soon surpass other icons? Will he become the longest-serving captain in NHL history? And what does his record-breaking consistency mean for the future of the Penguins—and the sport itself?
With every shift on the ice, Crosby’s career takes another dramatic turn, challenging the limits of what’s possible. The details behind his latest feat—and what lies ahead—are more fascinating than you might imagine.

The records keep on piling up for Penguins’ Sidney Crosby, as with his two assists last night, he now sits in 9th all-time in that category, passing Steve Yzerman.
Sidney Crosby’s illustrious career marked another milestone Tuesday night, when the Penguins captain grabbed sole possession of ninth place on the NHL’s all-time assists list.
In the Penguins’ 4-3 loss to the Anaheim Ducks, Crosby contributed two assists, including his 1,064th helper in his career on a Rickard Rakell goal that made it 2-0 Penguins.
The assist put him ahead of Hall of Famer Steve Yzerman, further adding to Crosby’s legacy.

Crosby, who requires only 15 assists to surpass Adam Oates and slide into eighth place on the all-time list, continues to match and challenge some of the game’s all-timers.
Crosby’s comparability with Yzerman extends beyond the scoresheet, however, as this is Crosby’s 19th season as Penguins captain, matching the record for longest stint as an NHL captain by Yzerman.
In case he does return to Pittsburgh next year, Crosby will be the league’s longest-tenured captain. Earlier this year, Crosby quietly shattered one of Wayne Gretzky’s longest-standing records.
Sidney Crosby Also Recorded an NHL Record 20th Consecutive Point-Per-Game Season in March
When his first-period goal on March 27th against Buffalo placed him at 80 points for the season, that became his 20th consecutive point-per-game season, breaking Gretzky’s 19-season run.
Crosby has the most career points of any active NHL player with 1,691, and he’s near another team mark. He has 32 points left to reach Mario Lemieux’s 1,723 for the team record.
He’s also nearing Alex Ovechkin (1,625) and long-time teammate Evgeni Malkin (1,352).
Even in his late 30s, Crosby’s influence still hasn’t begun to fade. Every game appears to turn another page in an already legendary career, one that still redefines consistency, leadership, and excellence in the new NHL.
