A flash of blue and red collides under the harsh lights of the Bell Centre, the crowd frozen in anticipation. In the slot, a rookie with ice in his veins—his jersey still crisp from draft night—carves out a sliver of space, stick cocked, eyes locked on the net. The puck leaps from his blade, a blur of hope and defiance. But in a heartbeat, a wall of pads and poise erupts from the crease, and the roar of thousands is swallowed by the sound of a glove snapping shut.

This is not a highlight reel. It’s something else—a moment that, within hours, will ricochet across social media, igniting debates and celebrations from Montreal to St. Louis. Yet, as the video loops endlessly online, one question pulses beneath the surface: What really happened between Ivan Demidov and the St. Louis Blues that night?

It’s easy to lose yourself in the spectacle, to let the viral clip define the narrative. After all, there’s a certain electricity in watching a star-in-the-making face a seasoned goaltender, the outcome uncertain until the very last frame. But beneath the surface, behind the hashtags and the slow-motion replays, there’s a deeper story unfolding—a story of resilience, rivalry, and a young player whose every move seems to invite both awe and scrutiny.

For Ivan Demidov, the journey from draft-day promise to NHL reality has been anything but ordinary. At just 19, he’s already become a lightning rod for emotion, his name echoing through arenas and comment sections alike. Some see him as the future of the Canadiens, a beacon of hope in a season full of questions. Others, especially those clad in blue and gold, revel in the moments when his brilliance is met with resistance.

The night the Blues came to town, everything seemed to converge. Schenn and Holloway put on a clinic, Binnington stood tall, and the Canadiens’ own young guns fired back. Yet, amidst the chaos, it was Demidov’s duel with the Blues’ goaltender that captured the imagination—a clash of youth and experience, ambition and resolve. Twice denied in spectacular fashion, the rookie’s frustration was palpable, his determination unmistakable.

But here’s where the story twists. While fans and pundits dissect every frame, searching for signs of weakness or flashes of greatness, Demidov himself remains an enigma. Unfazed by traffic in front of the net, undeterred by setbacks, he continues to write his own script—one that refuses to be defined by a single game, a single save, or a single viral moment.

What is it about this young Russian that draws such intense focus? Why do his triumphs and trials resonate so deeply with fans on both sides of the divide? And, perhaps most intriguingly, how will he respond the next time the spotlight finds him?

The answers lie not in the video, but in the days and games that follow. As the dust settles and the season unfolds, one thing is certain: Ivan Demidov isn’t done yet. And neither is the story.

The day after the Canadiens’ loss to the Blues, a short video lit up social media.

Sunday night at the Bell Centre, the St. Louis Blues pulled out a 4-3 win thanks to big performances from Brayden Schenn and Dylan Holloway, who each collected three points. Pavel Buchnevich also scored and Jordan Binnington made 23 saves. On the Canadiens’ side, Lane Hutson, Cole Caufield, and Noah Dobson hit the target, while Jakub Dobes stopped 14 shots.

After the game, the Blues’ X account posted a video showing Ivan Demidov being denied twice by the goaltender in the slot. On both sequences, the young Canadiens forward found space, but Binnington shut the door with spectacular saves.

The message is clear: in St. Louis, they enjoy big saves against the Canadiens’ rookie star just as much as scoring goals.

“Demidov Deniedov”

Ivan Demidov keeps his cool

For Demidov, this is not the first time he has found himself at the center of an online debate. We still remember the storm triggered after Nick Cousins’ dangerous hit, which also blew up the comment sections across social media.

This time, it’s Blues fans celebrating, while many Canadiens fans point out that the Russian never backs down from traffic in front of the net.

At only 19 years old, Demidov already has 6 goals and 14 assists for 20 points this season with the Canadiens. It’s more than solid production for a rookie discovering the National Hockey League. The winger, drafted 5th overall in 2024, is also known for his work at both ends of the ice, which surprises many observers.

Viral video or not, Demidov will quickly have the chance to erase those two spectacular saves by the Blues’ goaltender.

If recent history has taught us anything, it’s that every time he’s called out, Ivan Demidov finds a way to answer on the ice.
