We witnessed an incredible moment last night during the game between the Washington Capitals and the Chicago Blackhawks.

The great Alex Ovechkin scored two goals, his 893rd and 894th career goals in the National Hockey League, tying Wayne Gretzky’s all-time record for the most goals scored in a career.

We witnessed something special!

But that’s not all.

With the Capitals leading by one goal (4-3) and the Blackhawks pulling their goalie for a sixth attacker, Washington’s head coach offered his number 8 the chance to jump on the ice.

But Ovechkin said no.

Alex Ovechkin Refused to Score His 895th Career Goal into an Empty Net

That’s exactly what Spencer Carbery directly confirmed in his post-game press conference.

“Alex Ovechkin told Spencer Carbery he didn’t want to score number 895 into an empty net. A true legend.”

“After the game, Washington coach Spencer Carbery confirmed that Ovechkin didn’t want to go on the ice with Chicago’s net empty.

He wants to break the record with a goalie in the crease.”
