Emma and Ben quickly became fan favourites on this season of The Block for being the one team who steered clear of drama.

They even announced during the season that Em was pregnant, and the couple welcomed their son Bailey Colter Cox on September 25.

But it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows for the young couple from Melbourne. Despite winning two rooms and getting consistently positive feedback from the judges, the team failed to sell their house at auction.

So where do they stand now and what other updates do Em and Ben have to share? Mamamia caught up with the couple for all the details.

Where are The Block’s Em and Ben now?

Em and Ben are still feeling emotional about being passed in at the auction. Sadly, bidding for their house stalled at $2.97 million, which was $20,000 shy of their $2.99 million reserve.

“It was extremely disappointing to have our home not sell on auction day. We had put so much heart, soul and hard work into creating this home… it definitely wasn’t the fairytale ending we had dreamed of,” the couple admitted.

“The house is still on the market and we are keeping our fingers and toes crossed that the perfect buyer comes along and falls in love with our home as much as we did.”

Their disappointing result on The Block meant they have to sell the ‘dream home’ they already own.

“We currently have our own home up for sale. We completed the renovation on this one just before we went on The Block. And to be honest, it’s like our dream home, but we’re just 10 years too early,” they admitted. “Our plan was to see how we go on The Block and if we made any money on the show, we would have loved to have stayed living there. However, we are still in limbo with The Block house, so we thought best to sell it and move on. Sad.”

“We would love to either do another renovation or a brand-new build,” they said. “For either option, you’ll be seeing a lot more home reno love on our Ben and Em Instagram.”

Along with setting their sights on their next renovation, Em and Ben have spent the past few months adapting to parenthood with Bailey.

“We are loving every second of it. Even the seconds that were up at 3am feeding a screaming little Bailey. There is so much to learn. We are taking it day by day. But Bailey is killing it! Putting on lots of weight and ticking all the boxes. He’s just started smiling and it’s honestly the BEST thing ever!”

As far as their relationships with their Block competition, they’re on good terms with all the teams, but forged an especially close bond with one team.

“Benj and I have stayed chatting to all of the teams. We had a great day at the races last week with the boys and Sonny and Leesh,” Em said.

“However, I would say we are the closest with Britt and Taz. We have similar interests and loves!”

Em and Ben agree that their edit of the show was accurate — even if some viewers thought they were ‘boring’.

“It would have been way too hard to pretend to be someone else for 12 weeks straight 24/7. Ben and I may have been coined as the boring couple, but we just didn’t want to get caught up in any of the drama. We were too busy building a house and growing a baby to have to worry about anything else.”

Em and Ben have no regrets about their time on The Block.

“We loved the entire journey. From meeting so many new people and making lifelong friends to building a high-end home — only something we could ever dream of. To the outrageously funny challenges and sharing our baby news with the Australian and wider audience,” they said.

“We loved every second of it.”
