The Australian film industry is grieving the loss of beloved actor Martin Grelis, who died this week aged 57.

Grelis’ death was confirmed on Tuesday on social media by his talent agent, Sophie Jermyn Management.

Alongside a photo of a beaming Grelis, they wrote: ‘Vale Martin. We’re so saddened to hear of the passing of our beloved client.

‘Martin was a bright spark who lit up every room he was in – a talented actor, a kind person and a wonderful soul.

‘Our condolences and thoughts are with his family and loved ones in this difficult time. Gone far too soon xx.’

The veteran actor had a career that spanned almost three decades, beginning with a small role opposite Keanu Reeves in the science fiction classic The Matrix.

Grelis also appeared in All Saints, Water Rats and the 2012 mini-series Mabo.

His final acting role was earlier this year in the TV series Alpha King, alongside Last King of the Cross actress Mia Pimentel.
