Peter ‘Salty’ Psaltis has quit his high-profile sportscaster role at Brisbane‘s 4BC to concentrate on a television career.

Psaltis, who hosts the Wild World of Sports show, will hang up his mic on December 4 after working at the station for 24 years.

The media veteran announced his decision on Monday, telling listeners it was a ‘tough call’ to move on from radio after nearly three decades.

He plans to continue working as a sports commentator for Channel Nine.

‘I’m really looking forward to the challenge that lies ahead there, but I’m going to miss this place,’ he said.

He continued: ‘There’s so many people to thank for their support in over 29 years of radio, 24 of which have been at 4BC.

‘I’ll thank some of them properly tonight on the radio show and when I finish,’ he continued.

He also shared the news on his social media.

‘I’m stepping aside from radio, which means I’ll end my time at 4BC this year,’ he said on Instagram.

‘I’ll be still with Channel 9, but the focus will now be TV and the various commentary roles with the terrific Wide World of Sports team.

‘I also look forward to other exciting challenges and spending time with the family.’

Fans were quick to post their well wishes on the post.

‘Well done mate, looking forward to watching you on 9,’ one fan wrote.

‘Psalty, will definitely miss hearing you mate. All the best in your next chapter,’ added another.

A third fan said, ‘Congrats Psalty.

‘You are a brilliant sports commentator. You’ll be missed on 4BC, but I wish you all the best for your new sports commentating opportunities. Enjoy this next chapter & your time with your family.’

Psaltis has hosted the Wide World of Sports on 4BC on weeknights since 2022.

His commentary for the NRL and NRLW will continue in the new year.

Fans can expect to hear his coverage for the 2026 Winter Olympics in February, as well as Nine’s Summer of Tennis.

Psaltis started his career in radio as a panel operator in 1997, and in 2019, he joined Channel Nine’s World Wide of Sports team.
