When Channel 10’s reboot of Big Brother Australia was first announced, the network promised it would return the reality show to its original format. This included live nominations, live evictions, 24/7 streaming, ‘real’ contestants having honest conversations, and filming taking place in Dreamworld on the Gold Coast.
While most of these promises have been delivered, viewers were left disappointed watching Wednesday night’s episode when the housemates participated in nominations. Instead of being live, the show aired pre-recorded footage from earlier in the day of each contestant going to the diary room to reveal who they were nominating.
Host Mel Tracina then crossed live to the house at the very end of the episode when Big Brother announced the three contestants up for eviction: Jane, Holly, and Michael.
Many viewers took to social media throughout the episode to complain about Channel 10’s format change, especially as ‘live nominations’ have been a selling point since the reboot was first announced last year.
“I’m confused about how this is a live nominations if they’ve already done the nominations,” one person wrote.
“I wish the nominations were actually live,” another added, while someone else said: “Wait. Didn’t they advertise live nominations for weeks and months now?”
“So #BBAU can’t even be bothered to do the nominations live. Why how come? It doesn’t take forever if the HMs give real reasons,” a different user replied.
Meanwhile, others said that having the housemates record their nominations before the live show is “the superior way of doing it” as it doesn’t rush the process.
“The actual live nominations became tedious with Big Brother rushing [housemates] and pushing them to fit their narrative,” one viewer commented.

Channel 10 confirms major change to reboot
This comes shortly after 10’s executive producer Sarah Thornton confirmed there would be no Big Brother Uncut — a companion program that showcased adult content at a later time slot — or Friday Night Games.
“There’s no Friday Night Games, but we do have some excitement in store for Friday night that I think will appeal to the viewers who love Friday Night Games,” she told TV Tonight.
Sarah explained that the livestream, which will be on delay so producers can watch out for defamation or classification, won’t be “over-produced”, but will still be “reflective of the values of the main show”.
“There’ll be flashes of people hopping into showers and stuff. But that’s not the focus of the live stream by any means,” she detailed.
