The final episode aired on Thursday night but some viewers believe a spin-off series could be in the works.

Neighbours has wrapped up once again after more than 40 years on our TV screens. The legendary show has pumped out 9,363 episodes across 41 seasons, and Thursday night saw everyone say goodbye to Ramsay Street once again.
The series initially finished in 2022 but was revived the following year and fans got another two years of all the drama. But some viewers believe the final scene in the finale offered hope that the show isn’t truly over.
Susan Kennedy (Jackie Woodburne), Karl Kennedy (Alan Fletcher), and Paul Robinson (Stefan Dennis) were seen standing in their cul-de-sac, with Susan saying she wasn’t ready to give up.
The show’s finale saw a face-off between Shane Ramsay (Peter O’Brien) and Paul over their competing housing developments in the neighbourhood, as well as a proposal to build a freeway through the area that would destroy Ramsay Street.
Shane and his son Max (Ben Jackson) invited residents to join them in the newly proposed suburb of Ramsay Hills, which could pave the way for a Neighbours spin-off.
But another spin-off could be created with the characters who join Paul and his grandson Jimmy (Darcy Tadich) in the soon-to-be-built Robinson Towers. But Susan was caught in the middle and didn’t want to join either camp.
“I want to stay. I want to fight for the street,” she said. “Other communities have beaten the odds. We could be one of them. All day, I’ve had this sense we’ve been here before.
“Ramsay Hills looks wonderful….So does Robinson Towers. I can see them both in my mind’s eye. But I love Ramsay Street. I love our friends. I love our neighbours. And I don’t want to find a new perfect blend.
“I want to stay in this one.”
Paul wrapped up the final moments with a question that will echo with fans forever.
“So, what do we do?” he said.
Susan raised her eyebrows in a seemingly cheeky way to suggest this isn’t the last time we’ll see the characters from the hit show.
Many Neighbours fans took to social media about this very moment.
“Door’s open, there’s hope!” wrote one person.
“It will be back the way it’s ended they have left the door open for it,” added another.
“They have left it open so it could still be revamped in Ramsay Street or a continuation in Ramsay Hills and/or Robinson Towers. It was clever writing to end in this way so it could get picked up in the future,” said a third.
Will there be more episodes of Neighbours in the future?
Neighbours executive producer Jason Herbison penned a letter to fans after the finale that spoke to these possibilities.
“Why can’t the residents move somewhere else? They could – but we wouldn’t have a show, would we?” he said in his op-ed for TVTonight.
“Make that two new shows. In a way, ‘Robinson Towers’ and ‘Ramsay Hills’ are backdoor spin-off ideas.
“It would be fun to revisit the residents in fresh settings, perhaps as a shorter run or limited series.
“In production terms, it’s an opportunity to create a leaner model that isn’t shackled to a costly heritage site.
“Perhaps one or both shows will happen one day? Or perhaps they’ll be a return to Ramsay Street, if it’s still standing? Or another new chapter – Christmas movie, anyone?”
He hoped that Thursday’s finale of the iconic show was a “satisfying” end that was “respectful” of the past.
The show initially ended in 2022 after production company Fremantle could not find a new UK broadcaster, which came following Channel 5 dropping the show from its schedule.
But a deal was struck between Fremantle and Amazon Freevee, which allowed the show to be revived in 2023.
Sadly in February this year, it was revealed that Neighbours would be cancelled again, with Amazon Freevee closing down in September.
“We are sad to announce that Neighbours will be resting from December 2025,” the show said in a statement.
“New episodes from the 40th anniversary season will continue to air on Prime Video and Ten four times a week until the end of the year, with all the big soapie twists and turns that our viewers love.”
