People watching the finale of America’s Dancing With The Stars are outraged with the judges’ decision to award Robert Irwin and his partner Whitney Carson a perfect score after an apparent slip-up during their second dance.
The US version of the popular TV show is deep into the finale, where five couples are battling it out for the coveted mirror ball trophy.
The celebrity contestants — Alix Earle, Robert Irwin, Dylan Efron, Elaine Hendrix and Jordan Chiles — are taking to the dance floor with three dances, with the aim to receive the most public votes to be crowned the winner.
For Irwin’s second dance in the Instant Dance Challenge, he picked the cha cha to Cake By the Ocean by DNCE and while he was hesitant to tackle the dance style, the Aussie heartthrob remained optimistic.
Despite the nerves, he and Carson put their best foot forward to deliver another fun routine.
Judge Bruno Tonioli said he was “on fire,” while Carrie Ann Inaba said his and Carson’s partnership is what makes them a success.
Derek Hough said that he was nervous for Irwin at first, adding that the dance was “so hard”, but was ultimately impressed.
All three judges awarded the couple perfect scores.
However, not all fans watching the competition live were happy with the result, as during the dance, Irwin can be seen freezing mid-performance for a split second.
“I felt something was off, I don’t think this was a legit 30/30,” one fan said on TikTok.
Another stuck up for Irwin by saying the mistake may have been because of a rib injury.
“Robert was reported to have a rib injury just hours before performing, so I guess they had to modify the chorey and tone it down a bit,” adding, “You don’t see any of Robert’s amazing lifts and tricks like in the past weeks.”
“I love Robert and Witney, but I agree that the 2 dances looked a bit flat,” a third fan said.

Another fan believed the score wasn’t fair after pointing out that Elaine Hendrix only got a score of nine for not putting her leg up.
“Wait am i blind??? did they not literally freeze halfway through their dance?? Elaine gets straight nines for not putting a leg up, but Robert can freeze up completely and get a perfect score??? figure it out pls,” they said on X.
Someone else watching the show said: “The concept of the judges not mentioning Robert’s OBVIOUS mistake AND giving him all 10s?!?!?!”
Irwin and Carson performed a freestyle dance for their third and final performance, receiving another perfect score of 30.
With Irwin’s final score of 89 points putting him in second place on the leaderboard behind Earle, the winner will be decided by combining the judges’ scores with the public votes.
