Beloved radio presenter Susana ‘Zan’ Rowe delivered her last live-to-air broadcast for the ABC’s Triple J on Friday.

The 47-year-old hung up her mic after 21 years, hosting a three-hour episode of her regular morning slot on digital station Double J.

‘It’s clock-off time’ the radio veteran said at the start of the broadcast, adding: ‘Welcome to my last Friday morning show.’

Zan appeared to be wary of getting too emotional as she kicked off the program, telling listeners that her last hours on air would be ‘all about the music’.

But she did add a personal note before playing her first tune.

‘It’s been an absolute blast to hang with you on the radio for 21 years,’ she continued.

‘What is time? Music is a place where we find our people and ourselves, and what a privilege it’s been to walk and make that discovery with you.

‘So over the next hour, I want to share some songs that have kicked me in the guts in the best of ways.’

Later in the program, Zan started getting emotional, telling fans that ‘today there’s going to be waterworks.’

Her last broadcast also included a string of pre-recorded tributes from musicians, including You Am I’s Tim Rogers and Peter Garrett from Midnight Oil.

Zan has been rolling back her time on air over the last 18 months, telling fans in 2023 she would stick to just a single Friday episode of her regular show per week.

Fans were quick to pay tribute to the influential broadcaster on social media ahead of her last show.

‘Zan rules!’ one enthusiast gushed on Reddit earlier this week.

‘I’d say she’s responsible for like 80% of my music taste, whenever I see her in the crowd at a gig, you know it’s most likely going to be a good show.’

‘I’ve been listening to Triple J since circa ’01 (I’m 36) and Zan is very near, if not the top for me,’ said another fan.

‘Her knowledge and love for music is untouched; it’s gonna leave a big hole.’

A third follower said, ‘Ohhhh man, I will miss her. Such a joy to listen to.’

Other fans farewelled Zan’s last spot of Double J via the radio star’s Facebook on Friday.

‘Sad…. And incredibly grateful for your game-changing contribution Zan!’ said one listener.

‘Fridays will never be the same. Go well.’

‘Your love for music is infectious Zan,’ added another fan.

‘Thanks for sharing this love over the last 21 years! Looking forward to your future work with our ABC. Beat the drum!’

A third person on the thread said: ‘Congrats Zan. End of an era. Love ya guts, all the best for the future!!’

Zan shared a large gallery of throwback pictures on her post, recalling her 21 years at Triple J.

Starting her career in radio at community stations in the mid-90s, including Melbourne’s 3RRR, Zan landed the prized weekend lunchtime slot at Triple J in 2005.

The next year, she began hosting mornings. She left Triple J to join the digital brand Double J in 2017.

Following her exit from live radio this week, Zan will continue working for the ABC.

She is set to host the reboot of reality show Race Around The World in 2026, as well as helming Double J’s Take 5 podcast.

Zan will also be fronting new TV episodes of Take 5 in the New Year.
