Sunny Long was overjoyed when Barry ‘Bear’ Myrden confessed his love to her in The Golden Bachelor Australia grand finale.

After hiding their relationship for seven months, Sunny proudly shows off their love for one another on social media.

The 58-year-old even shared snaps of their first date in public, noting it was “such a relief to not keep [the relationship] a secret anymore.”

What happened to Sunny Long’s past relationship?

But the journey to finding love has not been easy for Sunny. While competing for Bear’s heart, Sunny reflected on her emotional journey on The Golden Bachelor.

And the story Sunny was hiding behind her bright smile shocked all the ladies and host Samantha Armytage.

When her mum was diagnosed with dementia, Sunny did everything she could to take both care of her mum and partner of 15 years.

“The last two years we had underlying issues because we didn’t have the same family values — that is my core value in life. Family means everything to me, but we didn’t really align on that,” she told mamamia.

“Of course, he was my number one. But at the same time, I can’t give him my undivided attention all the time. That has been very hard for me.”

Sunny’s mother then returned to South Korea when her condition worsened. The mother-of-two dropped everything to care for her mother, including her business InnoPlus Global.

But upon her return, Sunny’s relationship with her partner crumbled.

“This was the catalyst for our relationship ending. And I don’t blame him, because I can understand that you want your partner next to you,” she told the publication. “But I was away and looking after my mum because she’s not going to be with me for a long time.”

The siblings made a brief appearance on The Golden Bachelor during hometown visits. Bear received a grilling from the girls, particularly Chloe, but they ultimately decided they liked the Bachelor.

Speaking on her mother’s win in the race for Bear’s heart, Chloe shared a passionate statement on Instagram.

“Mum was completely herself throughout this entire experience – passionate, funny, energetic, compassionate, intelligent, and thoughtful. I mean… I’ve known her my whole life, so I can confirm that what you see on camera is exactly who she is,” Chloe wrote in awe of her mum.

“She challenges norms, she embraces her full self, and she doesn’t shrink to make others comfortable.”
