The Block viewers have slammed Channel 9 for reserve prices that were much too high for the show’s auctions.

The Block viewers were left heartbroken on Sunday night when two teams had their homes passed in and two others earned just $109,999 and $120,000. Britt and Taz from House 3 won the competition this year, making the most money by far with a profit of $420,000, plus the $100,000 prize, for a total of $520k.
Fan favourites Emma and Ben, who just welcomed their first baby before the auction, and Han and Can were both left stunned to see their properties passed in, leaving them with no money (just yet). The two houses will now be available for sale to the broader Australian public, and the teams can continue marketing them.
It’s not the result you want to see, especially considering last year the team that sold for the least money still walked away with $650,000 after billionaire Adrian Portelli did a clean sweep and bought all five properties.
On Sunday night, once the reserve prices were announced as $2,990,000, the teams were left shocked, with many saying their agents didn’t believe the homes were worth the $3m to $3.3m they were listed for.
While Sonny and Alicia had won $50,000 off their reserve price, it still didn’t help the couple much, as their property sold for $3,060,000, leaving them with $120,000.
For context, last year’s reserve prices were $1.95m, with the winning property selling for $3.5m, just shy of Britt and Taz’s $3.41m, but the winners, Maddy and Charlotte, walked away with $1.65m including the prize money.
Fans slam The Block over reserve prices

Fans took to social media to slam the show for creating huge reserve prices, with many saying it was the end of the road for them and they wouldn’t watch next year.
“This is heartbreaking,” one viewer wrote. “What’s the point of even watching this show anymore, teams deserve better.”
“Absolutely disgraceful having the reserves so high in Daylesford,” another agreed. “It’s an absolute fail. Shame on the show’s producers.”
“This is sad,” wrote a third. “If you look at Domain and the houses in the area. Even the 4-bed high-end homes on large blocks – the next closest price is $2.5mil.
“Not sure who values the houses, but surely something is not right. Furthermore, it’s so frustrating as a viewer to commit time to watching the show to have that as the ending. What a waste of time.”
Others said that the teams were “set up to fail”, and some also begged Portelli to come and save the day.
“What a truly massive let down overall,” one viewer added. “The Block has run its race with these huge multi-million dollar properties.

“Go back to the old days of renovating smaller properties or apartments.you create unreal expectations and are out of touch. After being a long-term Block fan I’m finally over and out.”
Even though Robby and Mat made $109,999, it was clear how devastated they were, as they were both hoping to set their children up for life with the money.
Fans also praised Emma and Ben, and Han and Can for holding their heads high and supporting the other teams that did walk away with a profit.
