Dave Hughes has returned to hospital for more treatment following the serious rib and lung injuries he sustained during the AFL’s Legends game.
Australian comedian Dave Hughes has found himself back in hospital just six weeks after suffering five broken ribs and a punctured lung in the AFL Legends match.
The 54-year-old was representing Victoria in the high-profile charity game when he was caught in a series of heavy bumps from ex-AFL players Andrew Embley, Daniel Gorringe and Mitch Robinson.
What began as a fun exhibition match quickly turned painful, with Mr Hughes leaving the field nursing serious injuries.

He was hospitalised following the game, later confirming the extent of the damage.
Now, the Hughesy, Ed and Erin co-host has told fans that complications with his lung have sent him back to hospital for further treatment.
Taking to social media on Monday, Mr Hughes shared a characteristically cheeky update from his hospital bed.

“The experts are draining a couple of litres of lung fluid into a goon bag for me. Then it’s party time again,” Mr Hughes wrote.
True to form, the comic used humour to make light of the situation – but also revealed the thing bothering him most during his stay wasn’t the pain, but the noise.
In another post, Hughes vented his frustration about the constant beeping around him.

“You know what kills you about hospitals? Not the risk of infection. It’s just the beeping. Someone shut the fridge, for f***’s sake,” he said.
The comedian has previously said he believed the worst of his injuries came from a collision with 2006 Norm Smith medallist Andrew Embley, despite being hit several times during the match.
After the incident, Mr Embley reached out to Mr Hughes to apologise for the impact.
“I just want to say that I am so sorry for my little thump on you last night that obviously caused so much damage. You look so sore right now,” Mr Embley said.
“How brave were you, big fella, to continue with the game?”
