Laura Byrne has opened up about the reality TV moment on the 8-year anniversary.

Laura Byrne and Matty J are one of the most successful pairings to have come out of The Bachelor. The couple is currently preparing to welcome their third daughter, and they’ve recently been showcasing their renovation of a property on the South Coast of NSW (will we catch them on The Block soon?).

While everything is looking great for the happy couple now, Laura has recently revealed that producers told her she was unlikely to be the woman that Matt chose during the 2017 finale. Reflecting on the moment on her KIIS radio show, The Pick Up, Laura said that it’s “weird” for her to watch the finale because she was terrified and felt it wasn’t going to work out for them.

“It feels so weird to watch [the finale] back because I think, firstly, we have so much collagen and we look so young,” she said. “Secondly, we look so awkward. It’s like we barely know each other.”

“You need the context [of why I looked scared]. I had been told by producers that day that he was not going to choose me.”

She continued: “So, they said, ‘Today is not going to go the way that you expect it to, and just prepare to accept it with dignity and grace.’ There is no other way to interpret that.

“I went in there thinking it was going to be a fun, silly experience, and then I did actually have feelings for him, and I felt so stupid. I was like, I’ve just humiliated myself on national TV for this guy who’s now going to run away with the other girl.”

She added: “So, I walked up there really expecting him to say no because I had been led [to believe that.]”

Laura then explained that she and Matty didn’t even get to enjoy the finale because of the “online trolling” that soon followed.

“Anyway, eight years ago today, and then we watched that on TV, and we thought it was going to be the best moment of our lives, but then the online trolling came. And so, we sat there and cried, and we went to sleep. It was a miserable night,” she said.

Laura shared the moment from the finale on Instagram, with a sweet caption that read: “Happy 8-year Bachie anniversary @matthewdavidjohnson. 8 years ago today, we were locked up in a hotel room watching the final episode play out across the country.

“You were the best reality TV show prize imaginable, look at how young we looked pre kids, so much love, so much collagen.”

One follower commented, “I was sobbing during the finale 8 years ago, and I’m sobbing now. What a beautiful love story you have.”

“This moment! Loved it, still do,” another said.

“I remember watching this, and it was so clear you thought he wasn’t choosing you. The relief when he said ‘I love you’ was so sweet,” a third wrote. “These moments ate what used to make The Bachelor!”

“This is beautiful,” someone else added. “You guys make such a wonderful couple and family, always love watching how real you guys are!! Sending you lots of love!”
