One thing that wasn’t on our bingo cards for Love Island Australia 2025 was two exes entering the villa with the door slightly ajar romantically on both ends.

There has been no sparring of drama and plot twists in the villa, and of course, Yana and Kye’s rollercoaster romance has undoubtedly been the season’s most talked-about storyline.

In the last elimination, we saw Lacey leave the villa, who was exploring a connection with Kye.

Now, with Lacey out of the picture, could we see Yana and Kye rekindling nearly a year after their split?

Are Love Island Australia’s Yana and Kye back together?

The pair is currently coupled up together, and after Thursday the 13th episode, we saw both Yana and Kye expressing that they would be open to trying again.

Both from the Northern Beaches of Sydney, the tradies had a sticky relationship previously, we trust issues and jealousy, as well as everything in between coming between them.

Love Island Australia’s executive producer Josie Steele and creative director Alex Mavroidakis opened up about the casting process during the Officially Unpacked podcast, revealing just how Yana and Kye’s unexpected reunion came to be.

They explained that every Islander goes through a detailed application process, one that even requires them to provide the Instagram handles of their exes. Producers then have the option to reach out if anyone from an applicant’s past seems like they could bring something compelling, emotional, or dramatic into the villa.

Josie shared that Yana didn’t just briefly mention Kye; he was woven throughout her application.

“She talked about Kye a lot in her application, and he looked interesting,” she said. “So we just reached out and asked if he would be interested in applying.”

Alex made it clear that there was no engineered plan to throw the former couple together.

“It wasn’t like we were like, he definitely has to come on, she definitely has to come on,” he said. “We just thought, interesting — let’s meet him and see if he’s interesting as well.”

What neither of them knew, however, was that they’d be walking into the villa with their ex living just metres away.

The producers may have opened the door, but the surprise was entirely real.

And now, with both of them navigating bombshell arrivals, plot twists and the season’s trademark saucy challenges, fans can’t help but wonder: could Yana and Kye actually come around to the idea of finding their way back to one another?
