Robert Irwin has addressed a widely-circulating rumour about his mother, Terri Irwin, appearing on Dancing With The Stars.

The Wildlife Warrior and dance partner Witney Carson won the US edition of the series last week.

Terri had joined Robert in a guest appearance during the season, dancing with her son in a touching performance.

 ‘Listen, the petition to have my mum on Dancing With the Stars has begun, and I started it,’ Robert told the Hollywood Reporter. 

‘I started this season, and she is firmly like, “Nope, I’m not doing it. That’s not for me!”‘ he continued.

‘And I’m like, “well, I’m gonna wear you down,” so let’s wear her down and get her on there, because I think she would be great.’

The season came to a blistering end when Robert and Witney emerged triumphant over a competitive field that included influencer Alix Earle, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles, actor Elaine Hendrix, and Zac Efron’s brother, Dylan Efron.

It proved to be quite the nail-biter, with Robert and Witney finishing the night tied second on the leaderboard with Jordan Chiles on 89 points, sitting behind Alix Earle’s 90 points.

However, the fan-favourite couple were declared winners thanks to a combined total of judges’ and public votes.

It comes after Terri shared an intimate detail about her famous family in the latest episode of The Apple and The Tree podcast.

The 61-year-old widow of the late Crocodile Hunter Steve Irwin said that she has an informal contract with her kids that ensures she never drops anything online without first running it by her son Robert Irwin, 22, and her daughter Bindi, 27.

Describing herself as a ‘boomer’, Terri said she relies on her children to make sure she doesn’t make ‘dumb’ mistakes in what she posts.

‘As a family, we still bounce off each other with everything,’ she explained to podcast hosts Richard Wilkins and his son, Christian.

She continued: ‘Like none of us ever post on social media without running it past the other one, because sometimes there’s some dumb thing that I’ve missed.

‘Or as a boomer, I say everything wrong. So they’ll go, “Oh, you can’t do that with your hands. It looks like a gang sign.” And I’m like, “Oh, I didn’t know that”.’

Terri then added, ‘It’s nice when your kids still come to you and say, what about this? It’s very nice.’

The proud mum recently came under fire after sharing an innocent post of her heartthrob son, which sparked thirsty comments from hordes of female fans.

She shared a photo of the TV host back in October, praising Robert for his recent successes on Dancing with the Stars US.

Perfect for working out, dance rehearsals, or looking too cool!’ she wrote in her caption, while endorsing the Australia Zoo branded activewear he was wearing in the image.

Robert’s fans quickly swamped the comments with compliments for the Wildlife Warrior.

‘You feel like an upsettingly hot distant cousin. Your dad helped raise millions of us,’ wrote one person.

‘He is so handsome. You must be so proud,’ said another while one more commented, ‘Robert is looking so good in that activewear!’
