He may have thrilled viewers with his dancing abilities on the latest episode of Dancing With The Stars, but Robert Irwin has admitted he was fearing for his life. The 21-year-old performed both a Paso Doble with his dance partner Witney Carson and a freestyle group routine with his co-stars and host Julianne Hough at the end of the night.

While he received high praise for both performances, achieving a score of 38 points from the judges each time, Robert later admitted he didn’t have the most enjoyable experience in the group routine. He told Entertainment Tonight that he “couldn’t breathe” when a piece of confetti flew into his throat.

“I almost died tonight. I choked on a piece of confetti after the team dance,” he revealed.

“No, legit, I went over to Witney, and I think they cut away, and I inhaled a piece of confetti. I couldn’t breathe.”

Robert went on to share that he managed to cough up the confetti, with the reporter summing up the thoughts of everyone in Australia.

“Thank goodness Robert Irwin is still here with us,” she said.

“I nearly wasn’t,” he replied.

Robert’s ‘breathtaking’ performance

Robert received plenty of celebratory comments on social media after he performed a Paso Doble to The White Stripes’ ‘Icky Thump’ for Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night.

Many viewers declared that he and Witney will “absolutely” be walking away from the competition with the Mirrorball trophy, just like his sister Bindi did a decade ago.

“ROBERT IS MY MIRRORBALL WINNER,” one viewer commented.

“Okay Robert Irwin, that dance was INSANE. Winner incoming,” a different user remarked, with others describing his performance as “breathtaking”, “unbelievable”, and “perfection”.

The season finale is set to air on November 25, with next week’s episode celebrating the 20th anniversary of the series.
