Nixon first joined the Melbourne news team as a weather presenter back in 2004.

Veteran Aussie TV presenter Livinia Nixon has finished her final broadcast for 9News Melbourne audiences after more than two decades at Channel 9. She joined the network back in 1997 when she landed a gig on Hey Hey It’s Saturday alongside host Daryl Somers.
But viewers these days would know her from presenting the weather each night, which she has been doing since 2004. She had her final shift with the news team on Tuesday night and issued a warm thank you to everyone who has tuned in over the years.
“This is a very difficult decision to make, because I do love this job, but I feel like it’s the right decision at the right time for my family,” she said.
“I want to see my boys chase their dreams.”
She also praised her husband for his support over the years and the “mad juggle” of raising a family with a job that finishes at 7pm each night.
The news team played a short clip wrapping up her two decades at the network, showing her presenting the weather in the snow, on the red carpet, at the Melbourne Cup, and holding farm animals.
Livinia first revealed she would be stepping back from 9News Melbourne earlier this month.

“As you know, the juggle of modern life is unrelenting and I need to spend more time with my boys,” she said on Facebook.
“Thank you for allowing me the privilege of being in your lounge rooms every night….I haven’t always got the forecast right, but hey, that’s Melbourne for you.
“I’m so grateful for so many years surrounded by a wonderful News team, and I’m proud to be leaving on a high. I shall be cheering 9News on from the sidelines.”
She said she would always be grateful to Channel 9 for understanding that she wanted to enjoy more quality time with her family.

While she won’t be presenting the weather, she will still be filming stories for Getaway and Postcards.
Hugh Nailon, Nine’s National News Director, said Livinia’s contribution to the Melbourne team over the years has been “immeasurable”.
He added that she had been a “shining star” for decades and always brought an incredible amount of “warmth, expertise and unmatched professionalism” to the job.
Clint Stanaway farewells network after nearly a quarter of a century
Channel 9 also saw Clint Stanaway sign off for the final time recently, with the legendary presenter wrapping up his duties on the weekend.
“I always wanted to work here at Channel 9, and it has been the greatest privilege of my life, working here for Nine,” he said on 9News on Sunday night.
“I hoped that one day I’d become a TV news reporter, and 25 years later, I leave really proud of what I’ve been able to achieve here in Melbourne and in Sydney as well on the Today show.”
He added that he will “always” be a Channel 9 person, “always forever”.
“Thank you to everyone who has helped me along the way, and thank you to you at home, those that have watched for inviting us and me into your lounge rooms as well,” he said.
“It’s been a great privilege, a great honour. I go with a really heavy heart, but I needed to make a decision… and I’ll miss you all.”
Huge changes at Channel 9 as famous faces leave
The weather presenter’s exit comes at a tumultuous time for Channel 9, which is in the middle of a spree of redundancies that has claimed some big-profile names.
A network spokesperson told Yahoo Lifestyle they had to “respect” the consultation process and “once that’s complete” they would address staff “internally”.
Dozens of roles are being axed due to a “new operating model”, which could save the network millions of dollars a year.
Nine said this will reduce a duplication of roles, drive “greater collaboration”, and deliver “commercial growth” for the network.
Amber Sherlock was dumped last week after being at the network since 2007.
She disappeared from her usual spot on the 6pm news last week without mention, but two days later, her fate was confirmed by news presenter Georgie Gardner.

“Before we go tonight, we’d like to extend a farewell to our colleague Amber Sherlock,” Gardner said.
“For a number of years, she has been a valued member of the news team, bringing us our weather reports.
“I’d like to thank Amber for her contribution, and we wish her and her family the best.”
Long-time Adelaide presenter Kate Collins was also shown the door recently, along with regional NBN News presenter Gavin Morris, who had been at the network for 16 years.
9News Queensland sports reporter Jonathan Uptin’s contract also reportedly wasn’t renewed recently.
Nine Entertainment’s new broadcast and streaming boss, Amanda Laing, recently admitted it’s been a “difficult week and a really challenging” time at the network.
“Nobody wants to say goodbye to friends and colleagues, but I hope that people can understand the strategy and how the operating model serves the strategy,” she said.
