In an incredibly candid podcast alongside her sisters, influencer powerhouse Tammy Hembrow has admitted that she struggled to cope with her public divorce from Matt Zukowski.

Appearing on Emilee Hembrow‘s podcast, Let’s Be Real, with Amy Hembrow, Tammy unpacked the grief she experienced after splitting from the Love Island Australia alum seven months after they tied the knot in November 2024.

“Dealing with my divorce and everything so publicly is really difficult because I don’t know, it’s just, there’s so many different emotions, like it’s humiliating, it’s heartbreaking,” Tammy shared.

“I honestly haven’t coped. Like, in the beginning, I really was not coping well with it, and I feel like it’s definitely changed my perspective on a lot of things, especially like future relationships.”

Tammy also vented her frustrations with a public dating life, expressing that a lesson she learnt from the experience was “not to care what people think”.

“Like every experience is a learning experience, and I’m just trying to learn and grow from this experience,” she said.

Further in the poddy, Tammy admitted that she felt she was held to “a higher standard” than the general public when it comes to who she dates and when her relationships happen.

“I feel like people hold me to a higher standard than regular people,” Tammy expressed.

“I swear other people fall in love with the wrong person, or, you know, like, I’m not the first one to do that.”

Amy chimed in, pointing out that the recent bullying Tammy has experienced regarding both her divorce and speculation surrounding her dating life was “next level”.

“I think that piling on top of the heartbreak and feeling like a failure — knowing you though, you’re such a romantic, and that’s part of what I love about you, and then it’s part of what scares me about you, because you just give your heart away so easily, and you fall in love and you want to believe in this fairy tale,” Amy told Tammy, to which she replied, “I feel like I genuinely have learned though now, that I can’t be so, you know, like, naive when it comes to just like falling in love — It’s just a shame that I had to go through, like, a whole wedding to learn that lesson.”

Looking back at her marriage to Matthew, Tammy admitted that she didn’t notice all the red flags before she tied the knot, revealing that she “was definitely blind at the time”.

“It’s so crazy to me now. Like, looking back, I see so many things that I didn’t notice at the time that people around me were telling me,” Tammy said.

“I think I just like, I think I just wanted the fairytale so bad. I was so just swept up in it that I was willing to overlook so many things.

“I genuinely feel different in my view on love and dating and everything now. I still am a hopeless romantic. I still want the fairytale. I still want to find my soul mate. But I just feel like I want to, instead of diving headfirst into a serious relationship with the first person I think is amazing, or the first person I like that I start dating, I need to just get to know different people and actually think about what I like need in a relationship.”

As a normal girlie stuck in the vicious cycle that is dating, I totally empathise with Hembrow. Like, god-forbid we’re all yearning for the romance we were fed through stories, movies and books!
