Robert Irwin has been crowned the winner of this year’s Dancing with the Stars alongside professional partner Witney Carson.

Robert Irwin has lifted the Mirrorball trophy after being crowned the winner of the American version of Dancing with the Stars.

Irwin, 21, and his professional partner Witney Carson, 32, wowed the judges and the public during the finale of the reality dancing competition despite suffering a painful rib injury just hours before the live show.

Breaking down in tears after the final result was announced, the TV presenter admitted the show had “changed” his life.

“My sister said it best: thank you for changing my life,” he said.

Irwin received his first perfect score of the night from the judges with his second dance, the Cha Cha, before an emotional Freestyle performance dedicated to his fans and late father Steve Irwin.

“I want this Freestyle to say thank you to America,” he said before taking to the stage while fighting back tears.

“I wish [Steve] could see it, I really wish he could be here,” he added.

In the three-hour finale, Irwin competed against four fellow finalists – influencer Alix Earle, Zac Efron’s brother Dylan Efron, Olympic gymnast Jordan Chiles and actor Elaine Hendrix – and their partners, for the Mirrorball trophy.
