Caravanning has become a very popular pastime here in Australia, with almost one million caravans registered in the country. Many Aussies are packing up their lives and are travelling the country while living on the road.
In fact, Aussies took 15.2 million caravan and camping trips just last year alone. And one team on The Block is lucky enough to offer that lifestyle as an added bonus with their house.
Sonny and Alicia in House 4 won a $260,000 caravan to add to their home after winning the Hepburn Spa challenge, which was described as “the biggest prize in Block history”. And while some might not see what this can add to a property – Han and Can were willing to give it up after they were accused of copying Sonny and Alicia’s heated bench seat for the challenge – Domain’s National Property Editor, Alice Stolz, tells Yahoo Lifestyle it’s a real ‘draw card’ for buyers.
“I love the caravan,” she tells us. “If I was a grey nomad or something, how fabulous to buy a lock and leave house, and it comes with a caravan. There is literally nothing for me to do except, you know, chuck my slippers and you’re done with it – enjoy, happy days, right?”

Alice adds, “I reckon that caravan is genius, because I think it just gets people thinking in a different way, like, ‘Oh, we could buy this one-stop shop and actually also then travel around at the same time.”
She also explains that even if you don’t want to use the caravan for travelling the country, it’s a great place for extra guests or something different for kids to enjoy.
“I think it just helps people think outside the box a little bit,” Alice says.
The Block’s property expert reveals surprising ‘favourite’

However, Alice has another favourite – House 3, Britt and Taz’s place.
“I think what’s really interesting is how strong House 3 is this year, and it’s one of the middle properties. Because we know what it comes to orientation, or the proximity of each of the houses in a block, people think quite deeply about that.
“But it’s funny that we’re in this thing where one of the favourites at the moment is House 3, and it’s sandwiched amongst all the other houses, right? But it’s not putting people off, because Britt and Taz are doing it so beautifully.”
Alice adds that she believes the couple’s design is “so strong” and they’re “so good at what they’re doing, that it’s still appealing to people.”
“You could argue that almost from the outset, people wouldn’t have expected that to happen,” she says.
