Troye Sivan has become one of Australia’s most popular exports but that doesn’t mean he’s that recognisable overseas. The 30-year-old first rose to fame on YouTube in 2007 when he began sharing videos of himself singing and, later, vlogs.

He now has over eight million followers and is a fully fledged popstar, with songs like ‘Rush’ and ‘One of Your Girls’ each receiving around 50 million views. So, it goes without saying that most people would probably know who he was if they bumped into him on the street, right?

It turns out this is not the case at all.

American TikToker Judi Jupiter, known for her videos interviewing random people on New York’s streets, recently bumped into Troye, unaware of his identity.

“Just met Troye Sivan famous singer, 3.7 [million] on TikTok,” she captioned her video, which has been viewed over six million times.

“He was with his sister, they were really cool Australians from Melbourne, who have a fragrance line.”

Troye was in New York to help promote his fragrance line with his sister Sage.

“Hi, how are you?” Judi began the video.

“Do you mind if I photograph you?”

Troye kindly told her he didn’t mind, and she proceeded to interview him while he stood outside Nordstrom, where the fragrance is stocked.

He explained to her that he grew up in Perth, but now lives in Melbourne, and she responded, “I met two hot guys from Melbourne!”

She added that the “best looking men” come from Melbourne, something that Troye agreed with.

While Judi thought the singer and his sister were a couple, they quickly corrected her.

The siblings then awkwardly explain their unisex fragrance line to Judi, who was keen to learn more about the pair.

In one particularly funny moment, Judi got them to “do a spin” for her to show off their outfits.

“What do you think of New York?” she asked, to which Troye responded that he likes it, but gets “overwhelmed” in the big city.

“You guys are young and good looking, that’s what New Yorkers like, you should be here instead of wherever you’re from,” she told them confidently.

“You know it changed my whole life, New York City,” she added.

“I mean, you become even more successful, because you’re inspired, and the energy, I mean this is the centre of the world, you know that?”

Judi asked the pair if they had a message for her followers, and Sage said, “Sending so much love, you’re an icon.”

She also questioned whether the siblings followed her on the platform, and Troye added that he would make sure to follow her, with a bemused look on his face, seemingly confused at whether Judi really knew who he was or not.

Troye’s fans were stunned by the interaction, with one person writing, “She made them feel like they are simple random people.”

“Judi supporting the struggling artists,” another joked.

“It’s so funny when someone doesn’t recognise that they’re speaking with a celebrity,” a third said.

“For example, Troye had no idea he was talking to THEE JudiJupiter.”

Others described Troye as being “kind and patient” for taking part in the interview.

“I believe this is genuine by the way they look so uncomfortable and wanting for this to finish,” another quipped.

“She made Troye Sivan spin around,” one stunned fan commented.

The hilarious moment comes after UK actress and TV personality Denise Welch recently confessed that she didn’t know who Troye was after fans noticed he was in her photos from Charlie XCX’s wedding.

Charli, 32, married The 1975 musician George Daniel, 35, for a second time in Sicily.

Denise attended with her son, The 1975 frontman Matty Healy, and shared several photos from the event, including one where she posed with Troye.

“I posted some of the party photos, it was only then I realised I was in a photo with Troye Sivan,” she said at the Virgin Atlantic Attitude Awards.

Her phone blew up with messages from people informing her who she was photographed with, and it as only then she realised.

“I just thought it was a lovely lad at the BBQ,” she joked.

“But it’s given me a lot of cool points.”
